Additional Information

Entry to the fortress is part of the deal. Come explore Scotland’s second-ranked tourist spot while delving into its gory past and tales of the monarchs who resided within these walls.

Archeological proof indicates that a stronghold has existed on this site for nearly 3000 years, and it has served as a royal castle as far back as King David I’s rule in the 12th century. Various Scottish rulers continued to use it till 1633, and it even served as the birthplace of King James VI.

Your exploration begins on the castle’s esplanade where your guide will narrate about the castle’s inception and its various sieges.

Once inside Edinburgh Castle, you will be guided through the various sections of the fort while being enlightened about its compelling past, including stories about Scotland’s former monarchs. In the fortress, you will discover three museums, two jails, a dog graveyard, Saint Margaret’s Chapel, the National Memorial for Scotland’s fallen, the Grand Hall and a Royal Palace, which is not available for tour.

  • Please note in poor weather conditions the tour will remain outdoors as access to the castle buildings is not available for tour groups

Fun, informative and incredible views. - The views and information was amazing. We had a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guide, Niamh, who is an Edinburgh local, full of good local knowledge and history. She made the information interesting and the morning fun and informative. The views and rich culture are not to be missed. I’m so glad I did a guided tour rather than purchase an individual ticket on its own as I learnt so much

Edinburgh steep history - Catherine, our tour guide, was fun and engaging during the tour. Very informative and such an extraordinary site to tour! There is lots of steep walking, but it is worth it to see the views of the entire city! Highly recommend!

A must do if you’re in Edinburgh - Great place to visit and our guide was informative and enthusiastic. It was very cold and rained a little so I recommend taking a warm coat and something for protection from the rain. The tour was definitely worth doing.
