Had fun, screaming in the vaults! - Had a grand time listening to my friends scream twice on when tour guide scared her during the visit to the vaults. Wonderful storytelling, and interesting facts. I had a great time!

A wonderful experience !! - James was / is a wonderful guide. Yet Auld Reekie advertising materials often portray their guides in costume. It would have added a lot of ambiance were our guide in costume, which he was not. While it was mentioned in Greyfriars's Kirk, we did not visit it... but I would have liked to see Tom Riddle's grave site. My only other suggestion is that he slow down just a bit. But his knowledge and enthusiasm were contagious and we really enjoyed his tour!

Fascinating vaults and well-told stories to make for a creepy time! - We really enjoyed our tour with Ally. We saw parts of Edinburgh and learned things that would not have been possible without this tour. Ally was an excellent story teller who struck a very good balance between story, history, and the technique that can build towards a scary experience. One of the best parts of the tour is simply being able to enter the vaults and gain a better understanding of the architecture that sits beneath the streets and bridges in Edinburgh's old town. I'd recommend this tour but would note that I believe the group exceeded 30, which was not a problem thanks to Ally's ability to speak clearly and project her voice... she also did a fine job of corralling us throughout. Thanks!

Disappointing - I booked 2 tickets for my visiting friend and I for Wednesday 19 June and was excited in anticipation of tales of old, a bit of drama and an eery vaults experience. At £24 per person, you have a certain level of expectation. We arrived to a fairly large group and James, dressed in a black puffer jacket which was disappointing as all other tours as far as I could see and have noted in the past, made real effort to dress up as part of the tour - not a great start. In brief, the tour mostly consisted of James herding up the large group, giving us way too much health and safety on how to walk on a pavement and us walking to the next point that James hurriedly directed us in, with no interaction along the way to give us stories from old times. There was a quick bit of on your left, there on your right and straight ahead then onto the next - I can look at a map for that. I'm not saying that James wasn't enthusiastic, but he did seem more enthusiastic to get through the tour as quicky as possible as it was his day off tomorrow. The vaults were really disappointing and it seemed that we were in one of the most boring vaults in Edinburgh, backing onto Whistle Binkies or the likes so all you could hear was some bad 90's music in the background whilst James told a story of a colleague who spent the night in the vaults and got a bit spooked. He did have a couple of good stories but I am sorry - for a group that brought you in around £500 for 1.5 hours, that just was not good enough.
