Highlights
  • Callander - After leaving Edinburgh, the journey heads north through the central belt of Scotland. The guide will share captivating stories about Scotland’s historical figures like William Wallace and Robert the Bruce, who once roamed this region. Along the way, you’ll see royal palaces, the mythical Kelpies, and the ancient Stirling Castle before arriving at the first stop, Callander. Known as “The Gateway to the Highlands,” Callander is located on the edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, an area renowned for its natural beauty.

We pause here for a comfort break, allowing you to explore the town’s charming gift shops, delicatessens, and bakeries. It’s the perfect spot to stretch your legs and refresh before continuing into the Highlands.

If we spot some of the famous ‘Hairy Highland Coos,’ we’ll stop for a selfie (seasonal availability from mid-November to March).

  • Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park - As we enter the ‘Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park,’ the bus winds through hills, mountains, and glens. These remote areas were once home to Highland Clans and Scotland’s most famous outlaw, Rob Roy MacGregor, often likened to the Scottish Robin Hood. As you take in the landscape, the guide will share thrilling tales of betrayal and revenge.
  • Glencoe - We make a brief stop at Glencoe, the site of one of Scotland’s most infamous massacres. The haunting hills and eerie silence of the Glen tell a story of sorrow and betrayal from the 17th century, which the guide will recount. Despite its tragic history, Glencoe is one of Scotland’s most stunning landscapes and a highlight of any Highland tour.
  • Fort William - The tour continues through Fort William, passing the majestic Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the British Isles. The Nevis Range looms over the winding road as the journey proceeds to Loch Ness.
  • Fort Augustus - Eager to catch a glimpse of ‘Nessie’? Fort Augustus, a picturesque Highland village on the southern shores of Loch Ness, offers the chance to take a fantastic 1-hour cruise with Cruise Loch Ness.

The local crew will share their Nessie experiences as you search the loch with state-of-the-art sonar equipment. Tickets can be purchased on the day (£20 for adults, £12 for children).

For those opting out of the boat cruise, there’s time to explore the village and its beautiful Caledonian Canal lock system, designed by the renowned engineer Thomas Telford in the 19th century. The canal descends through the village into Loch Ness. A walk along the canal and into the countryside offers views of mountains, farm animals, and possibly red deer.

  • Commando Monument - Along the route, we’ll stop at the Commando Memorial, a training ground for Britain’s Special Forces in 1942. This harsh yet beautiful setting features a statue overlooking the Nevis Range. It’s a prime photo opportunity, so have your camera ready.

Weather permitting, you might also see Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the United Kingdom.

  • Cairngorms National Park - Heading south, the journey passes through Cairngorms National Park, home to red squirrels, roe deer, red deer, soaring buzzards, pine martens, golden eagles, and ospreys. The final stop of the day is Pitlochry.
  • Pitlochry - On the way south, we stop in Pitlochry to stretch our legs and enjoy the fresh air. This picturesque town in Highland Perthshire is surrounded by stunning scenery. Nestled below Beinn Bhracaigh (Ben Vrackie) and beside the River Tummel, it offers magnificent views and excellent walking opportunities.
  • Forth Bridge - As we re-enter Edinburgh from the north, you’ll see Scotland’s greatest engineering feat and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Forth Bridge. This 19th-century marvel was once the world’s longest cantilever bridge. It now stands alongside the 20th-century Forth Road Bridge and the 21st-century Queensferry Crossing, which opened in 2017. These three spectacular bridges span the Firth of Forth, connecting the capital city with the Kingdom of Fife.
  • Edinburgh - The tour concludes in the city centre, with an estimated arrival time of 8:30 PM. Please note that this can be affected by traffic and other factors beyond our control.

We recommend allowing 2 hours between the expected arrival time and any onward travel or reservations, as individual drop-offs are not available.

Great experience - The whole trip was great. Our guide was also very witty. The places we went to were spectacular. Highly recommended. The only downside is that it’s not that easy for people with mobility issues.

Brien creates an extraordinary tour. - It’s a loooong day on the bus, but I can’t ding the the tour for that because I was fully aware from the start. But in exchange, you get a wonderful view of the Scottish highlands and some brief breaks in beautiful villages scattered about. (if I had to do it again, I would make it a shorter trip, with longer breaks, including a proper lunch At one of those beautiful villages.) As for Loch Ness, there is an optional cruise at that stop. Honestly, the cruise is very brief and crowded. I don’t know for sure the extra expense is worth the brief view you get. (I would have rather enjoyed the cute town instead, in retrospect.) This brings me to the guide and driver, Brien. ALL WORTH IT! Brien is wonderfully entertaining the entire way. The man is not only hilarious, knowledgeable and interactive, but an excellent and efficient bus driver. He played a diverse array of music along the way (most of it with Scottish ties), frequently pointed out photo opportunities in advance, and gave super clear instructions about the stops and when to come back. Really, Brien made the trip memorable for me and my family. I will never forget him and this beautiful tour.

Breathtaking views - My mom and I travelled to Scotland for the first time and wanted to make sure to see the Highlands before we left. Our driver Martin was extremely knowledgeable about Scotlands history and all the land around us as we travelled through. He was funny and light hearted. We had a young lady that got some nausea from the trip and he was really kind with her. He stopped several times to let her get some air and clean up. As a mother of a young girl I really appreciated his kindness with her. The highlands were breathtaking. Do not miss this this part of the world that pictures cannot do justice. I am so happy we went on this tour.

Spectacular experience, thanks to the best Guide, Fraser! - The best of our experience, without a doubt, our Fraser Guide. The Best Scottish Guide! In this experience you will see the wonderful Highlands and of course, Loch Ness (although we agree with Fraser that the views of the road to Loch Lochy are better). It is mandatory to visit the Highlands before leaving Scotland. Thank you very much to Fraser for the experience. We'll be back!

Great one day intro to the Highlands - Great tour of the Highlands. Fraser, our guide/driver was a great storyteller and shared an eclectic mix of songs about Scotland and by Scottish bands. Sadly we weren’t able to do the cruise on Loch Ness on the day. If you’re short on time and want to get a glimpse of the Highlands this is a good option but if you have more time a longer, multi-day, tour would be great to properly explore and enjoy the scenery.
