Highlights
  • Culross - The journey proceeds to the Royal Burgh of Culross, a charming village that perfectly exemplifies a 17th-century Scottish settlement. Fans of Outlander may recognize it as Claire’s herb garden and the Mercat Cross in the show’s Cranesmuir Village.
  • Doune Castle - The tour continues to Doune Castle (optional extra), known as Castle Leoch in Outlander, the seat of Clan MacKenzie. This medieval fortress has also appeared in various films and TV shows, including Game of Thrones and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. En route, the historic and majestic Stirling Castle can be seen towering over the city of Stirling from its volcanic rock perch.
  • Linlithgow Palace - The tour then heads south to the Royal Burgh of Linlithgow, where there will be time for lunch and a visit to Linlithgow Palace, known as Wentworth Prison in Outlander (optional extra). The palace, with its impressive grounds and stunning views, was originally a relaxing retreat for the Royal Family traveling between Edinburgh and Stirling Castle.
  • Blackness Castle - From Linlithgow, the tour travels to Blackness, home to Blackness Castle (optional extra), affectionately called “the ship that never sailed” due to its triangular shape extending into the Forth. In Outlander, Blackness Castle serves as Fort William, the headquarters of Black Jack Randall. Looking down the Forth towards Edinburgh, visitors can see the three bridges spanning the water.
  • Midhope Castle - The final stop of the day depends on the season. In the summer months, the tour continues to Midhope Castle (optional extra), a 16th-century townhouse that served as Lallybroch, Jamie Fraser’s family home. Visitors can take photos and soak up the atmosphere, keeping an eye out for Jamie. If Midhope is closed for filming or if the tour is in winter, the tour will instead proceed to the Forth Bridges. These impressive structures, spanning three centuries of Scottish engineering and innovation, connect the Kingdom of Fife to the Lothians and are a vital transport link for the country.
  • Forth Bridge - If the tour is in winter, it will continue to the Forth Bridges. These remarkable structures, representing three centuries of Scottish engineering and innovation, connect the Kingdom of Fife to the Lothians and are essential for the country’s transportation network.

Great tour for ANYONE, Outlander fan or not! - Great way to see six different attractions without the stress of planning and transporting yourself! Meet up was easy and fast. The bus is more like a large van - maybe 25 people capacity, though our group was only about 18 people. We left at 9:30am from Royal Mile in Edinburgh, and returned about 5:30pm. The stops were great and totally interesting to anyone - even someone unfamiliar with or uninterested in Outlander. Gave a great overview of the area. We visited: -Midhope Castle (Lallybroch) -Blackness Castle (ft William) -Linlithgow Palace and church (Wentworth Prison) -Callendar House (kitchen) -Culross (Claire’s herb garden, Cranesmuir, Geillis Duncan’s house) -Hopetoun House (Helwater, Parisian streets, Duke of Sandrighams house) All stops were good and were interesting in their own right, aside from being connected to Outlander (I’m leaving detailed reviews on the specific stops on their own pages). Only two downsides were 1. No lunch stop, we just had to grab and go whenever we saw something, but we really used our times to see the attractions, and there wasn’t tons of leftover time. For an all day tour, building in an extra 30-45 minutes for lunch would have been appreciated. We were starving and hangry by the end. 2. Also, in Culross, the tour of the palace was great but they limit the number of people so your ticket is timed (entrance every 15 min). We didn’t know this (no other tour was like this), so we started in the church and then headed for the palace, only to find that we had to wait 20 minutes to start the palace tour - and we only had 35 minutes or so left before departure). Had our tour guide given us a heads up, we could have purchased our tickets first, and then seen the other sights while waiting for our entrance time. That said, we did ultimately get to see the palace, but then had to rush to the bus instead of getting to walk the streets a little bit. We missed a lot of the town because of this, and it was a really interesting place!

Beautiful castles perfect for any outlander fan. - First and foremost visited lallybroch(midhope) which started off the tour right with magic. Every stop after that continued the adventure. Each stop was very informative, but my favorite was Hopetoun, where in many rooms there were mini guide to tell you about what was in the room and outlander facts. Our guide Donald from edinburgh was very kind and dropped us off at the railway station for a quicker journey home. He also gave us quite a bit of information about the tour and was very helpful and interactive. This is my third tour in scotland and my favorite so far.

Great Outlander Experience, Awesome Tour Guide :) - The Outlander tour was so well organized and well-paced. We covered so many spots within such a short time but didn't feel rushed. Just loved it! Mark, our driver and guide, was awesome! He is a great storyteller and we enjoyed listening to him. He is very enthusiastic and passionate about the history and culture of Scotland which made our tour even more special. He was with us most of the time and helped us take photos and find important Outlander filming spots within the castles. Overall, great experience :)

An instructive day out with good weather - Weather was good.Staff at departure point could not have been more helpful. Driver Marti talked a lot on the long and tedious journey out of Edinburgh. He should have his own show at the fringe.

Great for outlander fans! - Really good overall! It would be a 5 star tour for us if the only thing you are interested in is the outlander locations. If you have an interest in the history outside of outlander, there is not enough time to get all of that information. Andrew T and Wendy were great tour guides! They were super informative and really nice to chat with. Had a great time!!
