Highlights
  • Rosslyn Chapel - Our first stop is Rosslyn Chapel. Scotland’s \’best-kept secret\’ has now achieved worldwide fame since the publication of \’The Da Vinci Code\’. An architectural gem, its superb stone carvings are still not fully understood. Further mystery surrounds the chapel and its association with the Knights Templar and Freemasonry. Many visitors leave with their own theory but all are amazed. The short walk through the glen to ancient Roslin Castle is also fascinating.
  • Melrose Abbey - Enjoy lunch in the charming town of Melrose. The stunning ruined Abbey is the final resting place of King Robert the Bruce’s heart.
  • Carter Bar - Cross the ancient Scotland/England border at Carter Bar, a wonderful viewpoint in the Cheviot Hills.
  • Housesteads Roman Fort - Hadrian’s Wall - Hadrian’s Wall is the best-known frontier of the Roman Empire and a magnificent reminder of one of the world’s greatest civilisations. Built almost 2000 years ago to contain the fierce Picts in Caledonia it stretches for 73 miles and was designated a World Heritage Site in 1987. You stop at Housesteads Fort in Northumberland National Park, the best preserved Roman fort along Hadrian’s Wall. Here you’ll enjoy a nature walk along one of the most dramatic and photographed stretches of the wall.
  • Jedburgh Abbey - On route back to Edinburgh, you will stop in the Border market town of Jedburgh to stretch your legs and for photos of the famous Abbey.

Highly recommend this tour! - Angela's historical commentary throughout the trip plus her curated selection of music matching the stories made the trip so much more enjoyable. The sites were great (more time at Rosslyn Chapel vs Melrose Abbey would have been better for me personally). It was a great day and so glad I picked this tour.

Weather was ordinary and... - Weather was ordinary and the tour was very long but Angela our guide made all the difference. Her bubbly personality combined with her extensive knowledge which she shared with us was amazing. Whatever you are paying her she is worth a lot more. Actually the tour should only get 4 stars and Angela 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Angela is the best tour guide ever. - The majority of the 11 hr tour we chose was spend in the van. Our guide, Angela, made the entire time entertaining. She shared historical and current facts as well as legends and myths. She had soundtracks of both old and modern songs that related to the areas we were seeing. She was just as engaging at the end of the trip as she was at the start. (I don’t know how!) Next time, I would request a private tour with Angela and get her input on what sights to see.

So much variety in one day! - This was a very full day, we covered a lot of ground and got to see so much. I was really amazed at the scenery at the border of England and Scotland. Our guide, Euan, gave us so much history and did a great job taking us around. We went to areas I didn't know too much about, and I'm so glad I got to see them!

A clearly delivered tour with a good humored guide. - Our guide Angela was the best. She was very detailed in her explanations, told us many Scottish stories, and played traditional and popular songs when we had long periods on the bus. She was very timely and clearly had thought out every aspect of this tour.

Good Tour of Scottish and British Borderlands - This tour started with a visit to Rosslyn Chapel, made famous by The Da Vinci Code novel and movie. It’s a nice little chapel, but nothing spectacular. You’ll appreciate it more if you’re a Da Vinci Code fan. Next, we stopped for lunch in the charming Scottish border town of Melrose with just enough time to visit the ruins of Melrose Abbey and the small but pretty Harmony Garden. Afterward, we headed across the English border to visit Hadrian’s Wall. We spent about an hour and forty minutes there walking along the wall. It’s a steep but gradual ascent, manageable for most people. There are some nice views of the pastoral countryside from the wall. The height of the wall isn’t impressive. It served more as a discouragement to raiders rather than as a military barrier, sort of a stone equivalent to barbed wire. On the way back we stopped for a photo op of the Jedburgh Abbey ruins. Our tour guide Ewan came across as a little business-like at first but gradually warmed up as the day went along. He provided us with a lot of helpful information on what we saw and a few good stories, though the one about his son serving as a chef for the Royal Family went on a little too long. Good tour overall, but there are better day trips from Edinburgh, like Stirling Castle.
