Highlights
  • Estancia 25 de Mayo - Estancia 25 de Mayo is a traditional Patagonian ranch spanning 17,000 hectares, with its historic main house located just minutes from downtown El Calafate. It’s the perfect spot to unwind and take in the scenery at the base of Calafate Hill, providing an opportunity to experience rural life.

The gathering takes place in the ranch’s park, within the gardens of Kau Yatun Hotel. Guests are warmly welcomed with mate and typical fried pastries, followed by an introductory talk about the history of the pioneers, transporting the group back in time. After brewing an old-fashioned “road” coffee, dogs will showcase their skills by herding sheep to the patio.

Next, a stroll along a small stream leads to the “Machines Museum,” an open-air exhibit featuring old vehicles used for fieldwork. Upon reaching the “warehouse” and barnyards, there is a presentation on the local wool production process. The walk ends with a “Patagonian wine tasting” by the stream, and on the return journey, visitors can explore the organic gardens and plant nursery.

Back at the “El Quincho” restaurant, dinner is served alongside a folk dance show performed by local artists.

Quite pleasant walk - A trip without high expectations, which turned out to be quite pleasant. The Estancia is very close to the center of Calafate, and the structure set up to receive tourists is very well organized. Accompanied by a guide, we learn about the history of the pioneers and the activities carried out at the resort. At various times, delicious typical food and drinks are offered, ending with a very well served dinner and a show with folk music and dances. I recommend.

Fun day ! Highly recommend the horse back riding . - Fully enjoyed the day ! Beautiful property and learned about the history of the ranch. We watched a demonstration of sheep herding and shearing. Participated in milking a cow as well as watching 2 rancheros competing in a horse barrel race. We added the 3 hour horse back ride and so glad we did. The luncheon was also Very good and plentiful .

Interesting Estancia experience! - Interesting experience, filled with cultural activities of the Estancia, including a sheep-shearing demonstration. We enjoyed a bountiful dinner with entertainment by Patagonian dancers to conclude our day.

Good experience, but not a major highlight - Fun experience, good food, good show, a little touristy, but a good way to get the basics of the estancia experience within a (very) short drive of El Calafate. Note that this experience isn't coordinating through the estancia directly, it's through a tour agency. Communication with them was a little choppy and the van was 30 minutes late for pickup, so expect some potential hiccups if booking through this link.
