Additional Information

Olympia, often described as a sacred land, houses one of the most revered sanctums of the ancient Greek civilization, devoted to Zeus, the king of Gods. This is the birthplace of the eminent Olympic Games, ancient Greece’s greatest event, that commenced every four-year period since 776 BC, as a tribute to Zeus. The traditional ceremonial ignition of the Olympic torch is performed here in historic Olympia before each Olympic event, signifying the initiation of the Games.

Our itinerary will begin early in the day with a drive to the northern part of the Peloponnese. Following a two-hour drive, we’ll arrive at the ancient Olympia village. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the archaeological site to see the stadium, gymnasium, and the temple dedicated to Zeus. Next, we’ll head to the museum where the renowned statue of Hermes of Praxiteles can be seen. To conclude, you’ll be given leisure time in the village for a meal and a stroll.
