This half-day adventure on a jeep enables one to explore Udawalawe National Park, a leading destination for elephant sightings in Sri Lanka, from hotels in either Ella or Bandarawela. Udawalawe is home to a permanent herd of around 250 Asian elephants. Thanks to plentiful water resources, the park is able to support a large population of elephants. Every year, hundreds of elephants from nearby conservation areas journey to the park. Udawalawe also served as a refuge for elephants affected by the creation of the adjacent Udawalawe Reservoir. Along with elephants, Udawalawe is a vital habitat for birds, featuring a multitude of species, including water fowls, birds of prey, and terrestrial birds.
