Great day - What a great day out! The guided tour was amazing. Donna, our guide was the best, articulate, so knowledgeable and she guided us without any hesitation for two hours answering our questions too. We were part of a large group and we had a sandwich lunch in the cafe. We then had a couple of hours left in our day for a walk around Shrewsbury, a beautiful town full of great buildings and parks too.

Excellent day out for groups - Took a large group of U3A members for a tour and lunch. The guide (Donna) was really excellent. She had a good clear voice and kept us entertained with the history of the prison from Georgian times to 2013 when the prison was decommisioned. She kept surprising us with details of prison life for both men and women down the ages and there was plenty of light relief too. We were taken everywhere from the reception area with gory details about how prisoners were searched prior to admission, through to cells for different categories of prisoner, to the execution room and the bedroom where executioner Albert Pierrepoint spent the night before carrying out his hangman duties. An excellent day trip destination for large groups. Excellent lunch too. Thankyou Donna and the ladies who prepared our delicious lunch.

Excellent Tour - Our tour guide, Graham, was brilliant. He was knowledgeable, informative and enthusiastic. Great tour.

Would recommend - A really good tour through the prison and Graham the tour guide was really informative throughout. The tour was completed at a good pace with time to look around. The only advise I would have is that the execution room has a warning before continuing, my mum found this upsetting and had to leave.

Fantastic experience - Well worth a visit. Graham, our guide was very informative and made the whole experience fun. He had some wonderful tales to tell from his time as a prison office, it really brought the whole experience to life. Would recommend this tour. Good value for money and overall a very interesting experience. Nice little onsite cafe for refreshments following the tour.

Superb! - We thoroughly enjoyed our guided tour around Shrewsbury Prison. A huge shout out has to go to Graham. From the group first meeting him he was fantastic, the way he was with the younger visitors had them engaged from the get go. His knowledge is obviously vast due to his many years in service and he was just superb. Some of the things we discovered were so interesting yet so harrowing at the same time in that all governments should LISTEN to the likes of Graham in order to make positive and practical change. I would highly recommend the guided tour if you are visiting the area and should Graham be looking after you then you can't go wrong.

A fun afternoon. - Graham was fantastic! The tour was informative, interesting, humorous, inclusive and also allowed us to explore on our own. All staff were helpful and keen to make sure we had a fantastic afternoon. A must do again. Thank you Graham.

My Stay 21st June 2024 - Everything was great the prison and staff spoiled only by people walking around shouting and flashing lights all night.

Insightful - great insight into how the UK prison system is and used to be. Knowledgeable staff and great canteen.

Would recommend - We were really looking forward to this tour after seeing this prison on numerous shows ; sadly the tour wasn’t as great as expected. We were shown around by Charlotte who admittedly was relatively new to the job. We had a few ‘rude’ guests with us who kept interrupting her, talking over her, etc which seemed to knock her confidence and she found it hard to get back on track. Interesting place with lots of history - I honestly would have preferred someone a bit more experienced who used to be a guard there to control the rogues and to add that gritty element!! I would however recommend the tour!
