Cool experience, very pleased. - Finding the audio guides to pick up (close to train station, not at the event site) was easy. We got a quick tutorial. We were really torn on audio guide vs personal guide - and were pleased with our decision to use audio guides. We also did Pompeii in the afternoon. My husband preferred Pompeii; I preferred Herculaneum. Herculaneum was smaller and we were able to see everything the guide recommended. Perhaps that was my Type A personality shining through. I felt very accomplished getting all the check marks from the guide and seeing everything (we barely scratched the surface at Pompeii). My only comment was that our tutorial on the guides was fairly quick and they didn't explain that you could dig deeper into some sites. I was annoyed my husband was going so slowly. I realized halfway through that he was listening to way more in the guide that I didn't know was there!

Wonderful staff in the office - Brilliant staff totally made the day and also saved us when our second experience of the day went wrong! Audio guide is very detailed and at times repetitive, this could be improved.

Mixed experience - 5/5 Herculaneum site was a fabulous experience. 3/5 The audio guide was ok but became something of a distraction. 2/5 The local tour reps messed up our ticketing and sent us on the Vesuvius bus trip which we hadn't booked. All done in great haste but we were then committed to something we hadn't booked for nearly four hours. On return, after some negotiation, we were finally issued with the Herculaneum tickets. We then enjoyed our visit to the site in warm sunshine so all's well that ends well.

Almost like before - Unfortunately, since we arrived by bus, we had to drive about 1 km to the train station and pick up our tickets. The audio guides were activated there in the form of an app. Unfortunately, there were only brief explanations of the buildings and facilities. We would have liked more explanations. There is a food point on site, but it only consists of vending machines. The toilets are also not particularly recommendable. The place itself is fascinating and takes you back to another time. Overall, it was a great experience, but the organization could be improved a little.

Need your phone - Easy to book and find the place. Info on audio tour was interesting and helpful. Wish they had mentioned that the audio tour would need to be downloaded to phone. Which means using battery power and Internet to download. Also tour not so easy to follow around the site as numbers on site don't match the images/numbers on the interactive map. Also wish once you clicked read the info (which was what was read to you) I wish it would get ticked (like when you listened to it) so you knew where you had already been.
