Additional Information

The ancient city of Ercolano remains partially buried, having been smothered by a heated “cloud” measuring temperatures in excess of 100°. This cloud hardened into a mud-like substance, preserving many materials that were scorched but not demolished.

Case in point, the ‘Villa dei Papiri,’ a library filled with charred books that have been successfully restored and deciphered through a brilliant recovery technique. This process has bestowed upon us an invaluable reservoir of knowledge about that era.

In the course of this tour, you will traverse through the remnants of daily life and explore a world that surprisingly was not so dissimilar from ours. Visualize living in beautifully frescoed homes, patronizing artisan shops, procuring spices and fabrics, and enjoying leisurely visits to the thermal baths.
The tour’s subsequent destination is the Vesuvius National Park.

To see, if you have time - Nice place, but not too many frescoes and mosaics. Pleasant guide who allows us to learn things, he is passionate.
