A Very Pleasant Day - Sometimes it is the small, unexpected things that make a trip memorable. It was fun to see the stork “condos” with all the nests covering the utility poles along the side of the highway. The unpaved access road to the megalithic monuments was at times bumpy and narrow and we were so glad not to be the ones driving it! A profusion of wildflowers lined the road and the fields were carpeted with them. Absolutely lovely countryside. Seeing the cork trees along the way and learning about the harvesting process was as interesting as seeing the Cromlech of Almendres. Elvora is charming and we did not feel rushed at all. Filipe was spot on with his lunch recommendation and also gave us some much appreciated helpful tips for our sightseeing plans later in the week. He had some interesting stories and provided us with some good insights not just about the history of the region, but of issues the country is facing today. It was a pleasant day.

Deep dive into early Portuguese archeology. - wonderful lunch arrangements; Jorge was an excellent and attentive guide. We enjoyed the sightseeing of Evora cultural history and the Megalithic sites were all we wished for. The Cromlech and Menhir were as expected, but access to amenities at the sites is clear a work in progress. We were prepared for this visit to an outdoor and less well developed rural area, but others may not be so prepared - warning that the access is difficult for those with limited mobility could. have been better flagged especial as we were early season visitors.

Fantastic tour of Evora, Almendres Cromlech ("Portugal's Stonehenge") and more - This is a fantastic tour! In just one day, we saw fascinating historical sites and countryside that is vastly different than Lisbon. Evora is an amazing World Heritage site and the St. Francis Church is memorable and well worth the visit. That said, the Almendres Cromlech ("Portugal's Stonehenge") was the highlight of the tour. It is one of the oldest and most important prehistoric monuments, consisting of a circle of megaliths in all of Europe. Our guide/driver Filipe (or is it Philip?) was knowledgeable and helpful, often entertaining. He was quick to offer customization of the timing or itinerary and we did ask to end the trip just a little early so we could attend an evening meeting. Our guide spoke perfect English and is an excellent driver, including on the one-way roads to the Almendres Cromlech. We pelted him with questions. He usually knew the answer but if not, he searched for it while we viewed the exhibits and then filled us in. He clearly enjoys learning and enjoys hosting folks on the tour. HIGHLY recommended for anyone interested in history, archaeological sites or just wants to see some of Portugal's countryside.

Highlights of Evora - Overall an enjoyable day that provided the highlights and sights of Evora. The guide was very nice. However, there was no time to actually explore Evora. The monoliths were a bit underwhelming. Would not recommend this specific tour if the expectation is to explore the town of Evora besides the sights.
