Highlights
  • Capela dos Ossos - As the emblem of the City of Évora, this chapel, constructed by Franciscan monks in the 17th century, is entirely “decorated” with genuine bones and skulls.
  • Igreja de Sao Francisco - A church of Gothic-Manueline architecture, built between 1480 and 1510, it was the site of several historical events that marked Portugal’s period of maritime expansion. The Convent of São Francisco de Évora was the first establishment of the Franciscan Order in Portugal.
  • Praca do Giraldo - Évora’s central square is named after the nobleman who, serving D. Afonso Henriques, reclaimed the city from the Moors. Here, you can stroll through the narrow streets of the city, lined with typical shops.
  • Cathedral of Evora (Se Catedral de Evora) - The Basilica Sé de Nossa Senhora da Assunção, commonly known as the Cathedral of Évora, began construction in 1186 and was completed in 1250. Made entirely of granite, your visit is divided into three parts: the terrace with a panoramic view of the city, the magnificent cloisters, and finally, the Treasury room and the Sacred Art museum. It was here that the flags of Vasco da Gama’s fleet were blessed in 1497.
  • Templo Romano de Evora (Templo de Diana) - The Roman Temple of Évora, known as the Temple of Diana, is situated in the historic center of the city and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dating back to the 1st century A.D., it was built during the Roman rule of the Iberian Peninsula.
