Highlights
  • Fairbanks Ice Museum - Dress in warm winter layers before being picked up from your Fairbanks or North Pole hotel and transported to the Fairbanks Ice Museum for a guided tour. Then sit back, relax and enjoy the 60 mile (97 kms) journey out to Chena Hot Springs Resort. Keep your eyes peeled on the passing landscape for wildlife that might include a moose, beaver or fox.

Once you arrive at Chena Hot Springs Resort, enjoy an array of activities as you wait for the prime time to view the northern lights. You will be shown to our table in the restaurant where you can enjoy some dinner and hot or cold beverages (optional and not included in price).

Spend the rest of the evening soaking in the healing waters of the hot springs or wandering the grounds stargazing and looking for the aurora. (We cannot guarantee it will appear).

Rejoin your group a little after midnight and return to Fairbanks, stopping along the way to view the norther lights if they appear.

  • Chena Hot Springs Resort - After arriving at the resort, you’ll be taken to the restaurant where you can sample some home grown Alaskan fare (optional and not included in price). Enjoy a hot or cold beverage at the bar or don your bathing suit and head to the hot springs. The revitalizing mineral water soothes muscles with its warm temperatures of 106 degrees F (41 degrees C) year-round. You can soak under the stars in an outdoor hot tub, or indoors in the heated pool.

When ready, join your expert guide for a small-group outing to view the Aurora Borealis. Your guide will lead you through one of the best places on earth to witness the green and purple illuminations loop across the night sky. Wait and witness the celestial wonder in the late evening, when viewing opportunities are the highest. The lights are also visible inside the cafe’s Aurora Room, which serves as a comfortable and warm location for viewings.

Note: We can never guarantee the Northern lights sighting.

Jodi is the best tour guide - Took a tour to Chena Hot Springs with Jodi. She was the best guide. Jodi had a lot of Alaskan knowledge and was happy to share it with the group. I’ve already shared some of the things I learned with other people I’ve met. There was one disappointing experience that had nothing to do with the tour, but more with the Chena Hot Springs restaurant. If you want hostile, rude, unfriendly passive aggressive service, stop in the bar and see Shauna the bartender. Absolutely THE WORST service I have ever been subjected to, and I travel the world. There were six other people at the bar that experienced service from Shauna and they gave her a double thumbs down. The ice museum and hot springs were lovely. The springs were so relaxing. Too bad Shauna ruined the experience. Jodi did her best to make up for the horrible service even though she had nothing to do with it.

Trees and stars - I've never been to Alaska before. I'm from Seattle so I'm familiar with tall evergreens but the tour to the Chena Hot Springs was crazy beautiful, the hills of beautiful trees everywhere you look. The springs themselves were great. Just hot enough to not be too hot, out under the stars in the cold night

Great tour! - Well organized tour with safe driver. Maybe too much time in the hot springs if you don't choose the dinner option but there is a bar! We ended up not seeing the northern lights this night (29 March) but had great conversations with other participants.

Amazing Hot Springs and Northern Lights tour - Kathy was an amazing tour guide! She took us out to the Chena Hot Springs and narrated the whole ride, including adding a few stops for scenery and other things. We had an amazing show of the Northern Lights as well! She knew all the great spots to see them on our drive home.

Great Experience - Is Tour Guide Kathy (sp?) the coolest lady around? Pretty sure she is. This tour was great & worth it. It was a beautiful drive to the resort. The ice museum was cool. The hot springs were a fun, unique experience, and best of all: The Northern Lights! Kathy did her best to watch out for the lights and make sure to take us to different spots for a chance to view them. The weather was on our side but had it not been, it still would've been a fun time (just not as magical, obviously).

Okay experience - Nice tour guide. Bummer we didn’t get to see much of the northern lights the night of our trip. Hot springs were nice, but it was freezing getting out. Wouldn’t recommend going during this month, very cold. Tour van was scary. It didn’t have great traction so there were a couple times the van would slide instead of turn. Also the heater wasn’t working so we were freezing all the way up to the springs and all the way back to Fairbanks.
