Additional Information

The collection, ‘Le Macchine di Leonardo’ - the world’s largest (PRIVATE) assemblage of Leonardo da Vinci’s machines was created as a result of Carlo Niccolai’s (born 25th February 1936) youthful passion. The Niccolai family, known for their substantial craftmanship, have so far crafted 250 varied models and 50 interactive exhibits based on da Vinci’s codes and historical documents, using materials from Leonardo’s era: wood, metal, ropes, and fabrics. Adhering to the unwritten laws of Florentine artisans, Carlo has passed his immense interest down to his sons and grandsons. These family members have used their technological know-how to add to the collection and set up more than 100 exhibitions around the globe over the preceding decade. The exhibition spans three floors, covering an area of 850 square meters.

Da Vinci trip - Very interesting and the amount of inventions/ideas was huge. Nice interactions with some of them. As an engineer I loved it.

Who knew Leonardo DaVinci was such a visionary?!?! - We stopped by this museum on a whim because we were in the area. WOW! I never realized the full brilliance of Leonardo DaVinci. It was amazing to see the things he conceived and designed. Scientist, artist, visionary… If you view this museum from the perspective of the time in which he lived, you will be inspired.

Very interesting museum - Very nice and interesting museum. Also accessible to people with disabilities. I recommend combining a visit to the Leonardo Interactive Museum, to be visited before this, in order to better understand the functioning of the various machines

A Knowledgeable Experience. - It was a very knowledgeable attendance. We were at a smaller Da Vinci museum in Milan and this one in Florence was bigger and more interesting, we could try to move his inventions to find out how they worked. He was a genius of all the time.

Leonardo up close - Let's start off withh that this is really not a museum but a display of some of Leonardo da Vinci's most interesting ideas, drawings and models. With the copies if his original notes and the descriptions of his works, it is a most illuminating museum. He really was a genius.
