Highlights

During the guided journey, you’ll observe delicate crystal straws and stalactites offering their reflection to the water; the presence of the previous year’s rainfall droplets on the tips indicates that these formations are still in the growing phase. This is the cave in the southwest which drips the most and the only one on the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge that boasts a permanent lake.

Your guide, while guiding you through the cave, will explain how the unique beauty of the cave was forged over thousands of years. When sitting at the cave’s end, you’ll witness the evolving beauty of the cave as the guide highlights the incredible formations.

Once you’re back on the surface, enjoy the vistas from the Lake Cave Deck, a fantastic lookout point amidst the treetops. The deck, made out of stunning local wood, features remarkable glass portholes that give views to the cave chamber underneath.

An interpretation centre is available onsite, aiming to broaden your knowledge about the genesis and history of the local, national, and international caves.

Additional Information

Lake Cave is an awe-inspiring, untouched crystalline marvel, deeply tucked away beneath the surface - a quintessential limestone cave in Western Australia. In the hour-long guided journey, travelers traverse a staircase back into history, through a magnificent doline (a type of sinkhole), descending towards the base of the subterranean forest - with karri trees looming overhead. Inside the cavern, a serene lake mirrors countless minute crystal clusters. The ‘Suspended Table’ formation is a sight to behold - an impressive crystal adornment weighing several tonnes that dangles from the roof, nearly grazing the pristine lake waters.

Incredibly beautiful - This is our first time visiting a cave and Josh, our guide, made it a very pleasant and memorable one. He was funny and explained very clearly on the different formations… big plus was he took v pretty pictures for us. The sinkhole entry may seem daunting initially but there were a few sections to the stairs and hence a little a time allowed us to get accustomed . Once into the cave, its a whole new world - incredibly beautiful! There are a few caves in the area. This is apparently the most beautiful but deep - 62meters or 325 steps down.

I think a cave not to be missed. - I have visited caves in the past and thought it may be interesting. However, it was much more than that with some truly magnificent formations as one went further into the cave - and more steps! The guide was very informative as well as making the tour interesting. There was also no restriction on taking photos so I came away feeling very pleased. I would certainly recommend this tour.

Enjoyed - One of a number of caves in the area, we joined the escorted tour of this cave. It is a lovely, single chamber cave which you traverse for 85m: there is water present in the cave and a considerable number of formations to view. The entrance is at the bottom of a large sinkhole which requires quite a few steps down stairs to access. Guides are knowledgeable and entertaining: admission is reasonably priced with seniors discounts applying.

Lake cave experience - Amazing natural cave, great tour guide very informative answered all our questions. Very surreal at the end when the guide switched off all the lights and the tour experienced pitch black in the cave. Best part!

Cave with a lake view just stunning - The drive from Albany was well worth the 4 and a half hours to visit this beautiful cave. Although not the largest cave we have visited, this cave with a slow running stream (lake) was stunning. The suspended table of limestone was a feature but there were many stalagmites, stalactites, straws, shawls and columns that put on a stunning display. The journey down into the cave meant 700 steps down and back but it was well worth the effort. We’d highly recommend seeing this unique cave.

A Perfect Tour for Us - This was an educational and visibly stunning tour. The age of where we stood (or climbed down then up) was awe inspiring. The photos speak for themselves. Greg clearly knows his stuff and you have to be impressed that he and the other guides navigate those steps multiple times a day. The steps are quite manageable though. The 1 hour length of the tour was perfect for us, and we appreciated the flexibility in shifting our tour time to an earlier hour since our flight to Busselton was almost an hour early. Great tour!
