What’s the origin of ‘Beaverbrook’? Lord Beaverbrook, who held the position of Minister of Aircraft Production in the wartime government of Sir Winston Churchill, contributed significantly to our namesake. In 1959, Lord Beaverbrook, also known as Sir Max Aitken, gifted an abundant art collection and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery to the inhabitants of New Brunswick. This trove of masterpieces and the specially constructed gallery that houses them are among the many enduring legacies Lord Beaverbrook bestowed upon his native province.
The Beaverbrook Art Gallery was formally declared as New Brunswick’s provincial art gallery in 1994. Since then, the Gallery has continually enriched the community through the power of art.
