Highlights
  • Fatima - The renowned Marian Sanctuary of Fatima stands as one of the world’s foremost pilgrimage destinations. Each year, millions visit to honor the three shepherd children who experienced the Virgin Mary’s apparitions in the fields of “Cova da Iria”. Visitors have the option to attend Mass, explore the Chapel of the Apparitions housing the Virgin Mary’s image, and visit the Basilica containing the tombs of Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco (canonized by Pope Francis in May 2017, making them the youngest saints in the Catholic Church). The tour also includes a visit to the modern Church of the Blessed Trinity of Fatima, designed by Greek architect Alexandros Tombazis, which seats 8,633 people and spans 40,000 square meters. There will be an opportunity to purchase religious items.
  • Valinhos Sanctuary - This village is the birthplace and home of the three shepherd children, Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco. Visitors can tour their family’s limestone houses. Once an isolated and impoverished area in Portugal’s interior, it remains strikingly beautiful.
  • Coimbra - Internationally acclaimed for its historic university, Coimbra was Portugal’s capital until 1255. Known as the City of Knowledge, it exudes culture from the banks of the Mondego River to the university-crowned hills. Highlights include the Johannine Library, deemed the world’s most amazing library by British newspaper “The Telegraph”. Commissioned by King Joao V, this baroque masterpiece reflects the cultural aspirations of Europe’s wealthiest monarch, funded by gold from Brazil’s “Minas Gerais”. Visitors can also explore the town center and the Santa Cruz Church, which houses the tombs of Portugal’s first king, Afonso I, and his son, King Sancho I (entrance fees apply).
