- Fatima - The renowned Marian Sanctuary of Fatima stands as one of the world’s foremost pilgrimage destinations. Each year, millions visit to honor the three shepherd children who experienced the Virgin Mary’s apparitions in the fields of “Cova da Iria”. You will have free time to attend Mass (optional), visit the Chapel of the Apparitions to see the image of the Virgin Mary, and explore the Basilica, which houses the tombs of Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco (the latter two were canonized by Pope Francis in May 2017, making them the youngest saints in the Catholic Church). Our journey continues to the modern Church of the Blessed Trinity of Fatima, designed by Greek architect Alexandros Tombazis, which accommodates 8,633 people and spans 40,000 square meters. There will also be time for optional religious shopping.
- Valinhos Sanctuary - This village is the birthplace and home of the three shepherd children, Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco. Here, you can visit their family’s limestone houses. Once an isolated and impoverished area in Portugal’s interior, it remains remarkably beautiful.
- Obidos Village - Obidos is an ancient Roman town that thrived even after the empire’s fall, thanks to its bustling sea port. During the Middle Ages, a wall was constructed around the town after its conquest by Portugal’s first king, Afonso I. Obidos is the quintessential medieval village in Portugal. Walking through this walled town, with its narrow cobblestone streets, white-painted houses with historic facades, vibrant shopping district, and numerous centuries-old churches, feels like stepping back in time. The battles fought for every inch of this land come to life. Before leaving, we will taste the famous “Ginga de Obidos,” a local sweet liquor served in a small chocolate cup.
