Highlights
  • Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Fatima - The Sanctuary of Fátima is, by excellence, a place of Christian pilgrimage and Catholic devotion, preserving the memory of the events that led to its foundation, namely the apparitions of Our Lady to the three shepherd children – Lúcia dos Santos, Francisco, and Jacinta Marto – in 1917.
  • Batalha Monastery - The Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, also known as the Batalha Monastery, is unquestionably one of the most beautiful works of Portuguese and European architecture.
This exceptional architectural complex resulted from a promise made by King D. João I, in gratitude for the victory at Aljubarrota, a battle fought on August 14, 1385, which secured his throne and ensured the independence of Portugal.
  • Miradouro do Suberco - The Suberco Viewpoint is one of the most famous tourist spots in Nazaré, and for good reason.

After all, from the top of this cliff, you can enjoy splendid views of Nazaré Beach.

Moreover, from this viewpoint, you’re only a few steps away from several other iconic sites of this fishing village.

Not to mention the proximity to the best traditional restaurants and the modest vendors selling chestnuts and other local delicacies.

  • Estatua Homenagem aos surfistas e a Nossa Senhora da Nazare. - The Deer Statue, standing at 6 meters tall and weighing 10 tons, is an anthropomorphic work authored by Agostinho Pires and crafted by sculptor Adália Alberto – it was gifted to the Municipality of Nazaré and has been installed on the Farol road since 2016.

The statue of a surfer with a deer’s head alludes to two important moments in Nazaré’s history: the legend of Our Lady of Nazaré and the courage of surfers in challenging the giant waves of Praia do Norte.

  • Praia da Nazare - Undoubtedly the most popular beach on the West Coast, Nazaré is one of the most traditional fishing villages, where you can still find some women dressed in the traditional attire of seven skirts, taking care of the fish drying in the sun, lined up on stakes.

The beach, completely integrated into the urban area and surrounded by the buildings of the waterfront, retains the traditional canvas tents with bold striped colors. Bathed by a usually rough sea with strong waves, it is ideal for surfing and bodyboarding.

To appreciate the beauty of the beach in its entirety, it is worth climbing up to Sítio, using the elevator with over a hundred years that connects the village center to its highest point.

  • Forte de Sao Miguel - Located at the tip of the promontory, it is an old coastal defense fort, in Mannerist style, with an irregular plan adapted to the terrain on which it sits.

The construction of this monument began during the reign of King D. Sebastião, in 1577, aiming to defend the cove from attacks by Algerian, Moroccan, Dutch, and Norman pirates who raided the Atlantic coast.

  • Obidos Village - Óbidos is one of the most picturesque and well-preserved villages in Portugal.

Enjoying an excellent location near the sea and with the arms of the lagoon reaching its hill, these lands have always been inhabited, as confirmed by the numerous archaeological remains identified in the Municipality of Óbidos, from the Lower Paleolithic through the recent Prehistory to the Roman period.

Within the walls, we find a well-preserved castle and a labyrinth of streets and white houses that enchant those who stroll through them. From the secluded corners and gardens of the old medina area to the presence of Gothic, through the Renaissance and Baroque, the Village is an extensive work of art carved and reconstructed over several centuries.
