Additional Information

Come explore Galle, the Southern Province’s capital city in the island of Sri Lanka. It is famous amongst travelers because it houses a World Heritage Site, the 300-year-old Dutch Fort, along with various other historical edifices. Experience a unique form of fishing, called stilt fishing, native to the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’, Sri Lanka, in Koggala, Galle District, Southern Province. In this technique, fishermen perch on a crossbar, known as a ‘petta’, attached to a pole implanted into the sand some distance off the coast. From this elevated platform, the fisherman casts his line, patiently awaiting a catch. This method, though seemingly archaic, is quite ingenious. Apart from observing this rare spectacle, you also have the opportunity to try it out yourself, depending on the weather, of course.
