Highlights
  • Galle Fort - The Galle Fort, or Dutch Fort as it is also known, is a fortification first built by the Portugese on the Southwestern coast of Sri Lanka. The initial fortifications, which were built in the late 16th century, were quite basic. According to a statement by UNESCO the site was recognized as a World Heritage Site for its unique exposition of an urban ensemble which illustrates the interaction of European architecture and South Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th centuries which is the criteterion number four for such recognition.
  • Galle Fort Lighthouse - The iconic Galle Fort contains the lighthouse in Galle. It is constructed on the ramparts seven metres above the street. Although the first lighthouse was destroyed by fire in 1934, this light station is the oldest in Sri Lanka, having been established in 1848. The current height of 26 m was achieved by reconstruction. The light station located inside the walls of the historic Galle fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and popular tourist destination, making it the most frequented lighthouse in the nation.
  • Madu River - Sri Lanka’s Galle district is located in the country’s southern coast area. If it weren’t for the presence of a river, Balpitiya, a small town in the area, would be of little significance. The wildlife of the Madu River is exceptional. It opens up into the enormous Madu Lagoon as it travels through Sri Lanka’s humid region toward the Indian Ocean.

One of the most populated cities in Sri Lanka is Galle. Due to its historical significance, this beachfront paradise, which is located in the southwest of the island, is among the most famous in the whole nation. Prior to the advent of the Portuguese in the 16th century, when it was the island’s principal port, the administrative centre of Southern Province, Galle, was first known as Gimhathiththa. Wonderful trip - We upgraded our previously booked group tour to private tour and had a great time and visited Galle fort in a nice and comfortable car, the driver Aron picked us up from hotel on time then we stopped at the Turtle Hatchery and enjoyed the visit especially my 4 year old daughter, took lots of pictures and saw feeding the turtles.. Then we went to the sanctuary for a boat trip but decided not to go in the end and went down to Galle as we wanted to be back to Negombo before sunset and my daughter wanted to spend some time playing at Negombo Beach. Overall it was a good tour and I will recommend it to my friends. The only thing I will recommend that's why I am not providing excellent rating is to share the costs of all the excursions upfront e.g., Madu river boat safari cost (we found out after reaching there)
