The park serves as a popular migration site for elephants from adjacent protected locations every year. It was originally established as a safe haven for elephants displaced by the creation of the nearby Udawalawe reservoir. In addition to its notable elephant population, Udawalawe is a significant area for birds, showcasing a diverse spectrum of aquatic, raptor, and terrestrial species. For avid bird watchers, it’s worth noting that morning safaris are often punctuated with frequent rare bird sightings.

Family safari - Udawalawe national park was so much more then we would’ve expected. We saw many elephants up close, jungle cats, crocodiles, golden jackal, buffalows in mud, monkeys and much more. Our safari guide had an intuition to locate animals. We were with two small children and our guide did everything to make them happy. Thank you very much for the awesome time.

Existing safari at Udawalawe - We went on a safari at Udawalawe national park with few of my friends. I booked it with Overa tours as a recommendation of my brother. We were luck to see more than 30 elephants there. Also we spotted baby elephants too. Our jeep driver took us near to them and it was so exciting... Also we saw many bird species like peacocks plus water buffaloes, crocodiles, deers so and so. If you wanna see elephants, don't miss Udawalawe 🐘 Excellent service. Highly recommended!!!!

Safari - Udawalawe safari is one of the finest national parks to see elephants and wildlife in sri lanka. Arrive at 0900 to park and spent amazing 4 hours safari with our guide. Our guide was very informative and helpful to spot some wildlife and many elephants. Plus point of this safari is all the animals are wild animals including elephants. They were not chained and they live freely. Deers water buffalo and birds lizards were highlights of the safari. I advise you all the start early to spot some magnificent creatures.

Unforgettable safari to Udawalawe - We booked a half day safari to Udawalawe. This park is mainly to see elephants. The highlight of our tour is we saw an elephant and a baby so close to our jeep. It was really exciting. We paid over 200.00 USD from Galle hotel. There were not many jeeps so we were able to get isolated to some places which helps us to see many animals. Unspoiled beautiful place.
