Highlights
  • Thousand Islands Bridge - The Thousand Islands International Bridge (French: Pont des Mille-îles) is an American-maintained international bridge system over the Saint Lawrence River connecting northern New York in the United States with southeastern Ontario in Canada. Constructed in 1937, with additions in 1959, the bridges span the Canada–US border in the middle of the Thousand Islands region.
  • Boldt Castle and Yacht House - Construction began on Boldt Castle in 1900 at the bidding of millionaire hotel magnate George C. Boldt as a tribute to his beloved wife Louise. Boldt Castle was designed as their summer dream home. A castle rivaling those of Europe, built on the St. Lawrence River, in the heart of the 1000 Islands. However it was not to be, Mrs. Boldt passed away suddenly just months before the completion of the castle. Mr. Boldt was inconsolable and immediately stopped all construction on Heart Island, leaving the property vacant for over seventy years.
  • 1000 Islands Tower - The 1000 Islands Tower is a concrete observation tower on Hill Island, essentially on the U.S.-Canada border, but actually located within Ontario rather than New York State. Built in 1965, the tower provides panoramic views over the Thousand Islands of both nations, from a height of 400 feet (120 m) above the St. Lawrence River.
  • Zavikon Island - Zavikon Island is home to a bridge that, at only 32 feet in length, is considered the shortest international bridge in the world. It connects a Canadian island with an American island in the middle of the Saint Lawrence River.

The boundary agreement that was drafted between Canada and the United States declares that no island can be split into two territories. Two-thirds of the islands in this bunch, the Thousand Islands, belong to Canada, but the total area of the Canadian islands is roughly equal to the other one-third, which are considered to be American territory.

Perfect way to spend several hours to experience nature, history and culture. - The cruise was the start to an amazing morning/afternoon and tour. The boat departed exactly on time and the narrative throughout the cruise was informative. The stop at Boldt Castle was 2 hours and just enough time to thoroughly explore the castle and grounds.

Great trip - The river and island views were great on the boat ride. The castle was impressive both inside and out as well as the manicured grounds. The cruise afforded us 2 hours to wander around the castle and grounds. Remember to bring your passport since the castle is in US territory.

5-Hour Thousand Island Cruise and Tour of Boldt Castle - My wife and I had taken the Thousand Island cruise a few years ago, but it was my first visit to Boldt castle. It is well worth the extra time and expense to include this on your cruise. Most of the castle has been refurnished, but there are still some sections that remain as Mr. Boldt left them when his wife passed away. The castle provides a glimpse into the "lifestyles of the rich and famous" from times past as you tour its 126 rooms. The refurbished areas are now furnished with period furniture, much of it purchased and intended for the castle while it was under construction. We highly recommend the five hour tour for visitors or residents of the area.

Rebuilding History a story of love and heartbreak - We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise to and from Boldt Castle. Once on the Island we were truly enthralled with everything, it is a beautiful castle with so much history. My friend who was with me took the trip to Boldt castle 30 years ago when they were just starting to renovate,, we went on August 12th because she wanted to see how it looked after the renovations. She was impressed and so pleased .

Boldt experience - Stained glass, walls & ceiling artwork, crown mouldings. The rooms & furniture inside the castle. Beautiful buildings, so much to view. Wish we would have had more time to explore the grounds & the boat house.
