  • Penang Hill - You will visit Penang Hill where you will ride a funicular train to its peak at 833m above sea level to enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of Georgetown and mainland Butterworth. Colonial bungalows can be found around this hill due to the British preferring to stay in a cooler climate compared to the hot and humid environment in the city.

Since its founding in 1930, the “Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas” is considered one of Penang’s most beautiful architectural wonders as it is able to incorporate 3 cultures into one structure – Chinese octagonal base, Thai middle tier and Burmese Crown. A 30.2m Guan Yin – Goddess of Mercy bronze statue was erected in 2002 on the highest point of the temple. It can be reached via an Inclined lift at the middle.
  • Penang Botanical Gardens - Then make a visit to Penang Botanical Garden

The Penang Botanic Gardens, also known as the “Waterfall Gardens” because of the cascading waterfall nearby, is a public park situated on Jalan Air Terjun in George Town, Penang. The original gardens were established in 1884 from an old quarry site, under the supervision of Charles Curtis, who was the first superintendent.

  • Batu Ferringhi Beach - Batu Ferringhi Beach

Batu Ferringhi is a beach resort northwest of George Town, on Malaysia’s Penang Island. It’s known for water sports and seafood restaurants. Street food, household goods and batik clothing are sold at the seafront night market. Batik pieces are also on display at local galleries and shops.

Furnicular train rides on a rainy day - I rated average bc it was a rainy day for our trip. Hence not much of good photos taking on a wet day. However, am happier to ride the Furnicular Train. A great view on a not rainy day. Tour guide was average. Due to rainy weather; he bring us around places but not much to view as it was rainy day.

Disappointing - Unfortunately I had a poor experience. Firstly, as a solo traveller I had to book a private tour as no shared options were available. This further meant that the price nearly doubled for me. I accepted that, thinking that I would at least have the company of the guide. That turned out not to be the case, for the most part. The first stop was Penang Hill. The driver /guide bought my ticket, not including the eco park part. I expected this part of the tour to take 1 hour (as indicated) and arranged to call the guide when I was finished. I was not able to get in touch with the guide for 2.5 hours. The number given on the ticket was not manned and the guide made no effort to call me within that 2.5 hour time slot. When he eventually called me after 2.5 hours he said he assumed I wanted to spend more time on the hill. However, as my ticket was for the restricted area it seemed bizarre that he would think that. I thought I had been abandoned and took a taxi myself to the next venue, the Botanic garden. When the guide eventually made contact with me I arranged to meet him outside the Botanic garden. He offered to pay my taxi fare of 40 RM and I accepted. I went around the botanic gardens on my own as I had not yet met the guide again. I am not sure if he would have accompanied me but it seems unlikely as he made no comment about it when I met him. We then drove to the Buddhist temple. However, here he basically acted as a driver and didn't accompany me through the site. He dropped me at the entrance, made a couple of short comments about the venue and statues and then instructed me to meet him in the car park after I had gone around by myself. I then had to negotiate the temple on my own and try to make some sense of what I was looking at, as I had no 'guidance'. After the disappointing temple visit I saw no point in carrying on, as it was clear I was 'on my own'. I asked him to drop me back to my hotel. Enroute he did comment on some sites we passed, giving some historical and other context. However, the whole experience was very poor considering the €165 I paid.

Very expensive - My partner and I decided to book a tour for the day, we wanted something that included a few destinations. Unfortunately we chose this one. We got the feeling that was way too expensive for what it was worth as no one else was on the tour. The tour guide was a lovely man who told us about the local area, which was great however we didn’t really have enough time to visit all the places on the list. At one point he asked us to pay for the temple when it specifically states it’s included. We had to show him the fine print and then he called someone. It was a bit strange. Over all it was a mistake to book this very expensive tour when you can just do it yourself using the app grab to get around the area.
