Additional Information

Embark on an exploration of Guyana’s colonial past and delve into the tale of the One Cent Magenta, the most elusive and valuable stamp in existence.

The One-Cent Magenta Stamp surfaced when a young student, L. Vernon Vaughan, unearthed it from a pile of family documents hidden within an 1856 issue of The Royal Gazette, published in Georgetown, back in 1873.

He exchanged it for six shillings, under the impression that a superior stamp could still be found; however, such a stamp has never been discovered.

Transformed from a simple, ephemeral piece affixed to a newspaper to a highly coveted item, the one-cent magenta entered a realm of exalted valuation since the decade of the 1870s. Safeguarded in the secured environs of royal residences or financial institution vaults, it mirrored the characterization of collectible artifacts articulated by cultural historian Philipp Blom in 2011: These items, he noted, ‘resemble sacred relics.’ They have transcended their initial purpose and have become symbolic totems.

This experience will guide you to the very abode of the planet’s most scarce postage stamp.

We loved it... - We have just come from the One Cent Magenta Tour and we loved we every minute. A lovely couple bring it all to life and show and tell the story about the world's rarest and most expensive postage stamp which comes from Guyana. Lots of information and little surprises. The food was great and we learned lots. We are so glad we did it. You should do it too, we'll worth the money paid.
