Highlights
  • Pyramids of Giza - The Pyramids of Giza include the Great Pyramid of Giza (also called the Pyramid of Cheops or Khufu, built around 2580 – 2560 BC), the slightly smaller Pyramid of Khafre (or Chephren) located a few hundred meters to the southwest, and the more modest Pyramid of Menkaure (or Mykerinos) situated a few hundred meters further southwest. The Great Sphinx is positioned on the eastern side of the complex. Egyptologists generally agree that the head of the Great Sphinx represents Khafre. In addition to these main structures, there are several smaller satellite buildings, known as “queens” pyramids, along with causeways and valley pyramids.
  • Great Sphinx - The Sphinx is a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with a lion’s body and a human’s head. It faces directly from west to east and is located on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. The Sphinx’s face is widely believed to depict the pharaoh Khafre.

Carved from the bedrock, the original form of the Sphinx has been restored with layers of blocks. It measures 73 meters (240 feet) in length from paw to tail, 20 meters (66 feet) in height from the base to the top of the head, and 19 meters (62 feet) in width at its rear haunches. It is the oldest known monumental sculpture in Egypt and is generally thought to have been designed, sculpted, and built by ancient Egyptians of the Old Kingdom during the reign of pharaoh Khafre.

  • The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities - The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, commonly referred to as the Egyptian Museum or the Museum of Cairo, houses a vast collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. It contains 120,000 items, with a significant number on display,
