- Hellenic Post Agency - Our hiking tour begins in Chortiatis village. We follow the icemakers’ path, the most well-known trail on Chortiatis mountain. This path was named after the old villagers who, on freezing winter nights, would climb the mountain to make ice and sell it to the affluent families of Thessaloniki.
We pause at Chortiatis refuge before heading towards Kolosourtis peak, where we can take in the views of Thessaloniki, Thermaikos bay, and, on clear days, Mount Olympus. We then return to Chortiatis village.

Chortiatis is a mountain with natural beauty, which offers stunning natural landscapes, with dense forests and diverse flora and fauna. Hiking enthusiasts can enjoy the scenic routes and the panoramic views of the surrounding areas. From the summit of Kolosourtis, we can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the city of Thessaloniki, the Thermaic Gulf and Olympus mt. Chortiatis is rich in biodiversity, featuring a variety of plant and animal species. Nature lovers may find the exploration of the local flora and fauna to be a highlight of their visit. We will hike to Ice Maker’s road where the early Chortiatis residents, in winter stored blocks of ice in the specific places in the mountain in order to sell them to Thessaloniki. We will visit and rest at Chortiatis refuge, a wellcoming refuge at 1,000 altitude.
