What does Carmen mean? It refers to a traditional home type in Granada, characterized by vast estates, orchards, lush floral and fruit gardens, numerous green spaces providing shade, as well as pools that offer coolness. Originating from the Nasrid era (13th-15th centuries), these homes have been consistently modified to meet the preferences and needs of their inhabitants, even beyond the Romanesque era.
Throughout this journey, you’ll gain insights into an art and style found only in Granada, intertwining the idea of urban living and natural elements. Discover part of Albaicín’s urban architecture and its cultural heritage. Although many of the Cármenes are privately owned, our tour grants access to 3 superb almunias which will be guided by a local, certified guide.
