Additional Information

Embark on a tour of the illustrious British Museum with a guide to explore some of its notable exhibits. Given its vast array of artefacts, even a week-long visit to the British Museum is not enough to uncover all its treasures. Begin your journey with a view of the awe-inspiring ceiling, followed by an appreciation of the magnificent glass roof within the Great Court, a masterpiece in itself. Proceed to behold the globally renowned ‘Rosetta Stone’, which unlocked the mysteries of Egyptian hieroglyphics. View the contentious Parthenon Sculptures, procured from Athens’ Parthenon by Lord Elgin, who was once the British Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire. Visit the Ancient Egypt displays to marvel at the extensive collection of Egyptian mummies, before exploring the Anglo-Saxon ‘Sutton Hoo’ burial artefacts and the ‘Winged Bulls’ from Khorsabad.

A trip highlight to the British Museum - Our guide was amazing. Fortunately she rang ahead of time to inform us to line up early. We should have been warned about that before hand. The information and exhibits were memorable to say the least.

Great museum tour - We toured the British Museum with a tour guide and we are glad we did. The museum is dense and impossible to explore on your own. You can see the exhibits but won’t make the make of your time in your own. Our guide was excellent and pointed us in the right direction. She showed us all the important exhibits and provided us some guidance on the ones we wanted to explore on our own. Definitely worth doing it as tour. Highly recommend.

Worth a visit. - Joe, the museum guide was excellent - knowledge, sense of humour, accomodating and friendly. Despite a cacophony of noise, Joe’s voice was strong. His passion for historical facts and communicating them to those with limited knowledge was excellent.

British Museum Tour - Although most museums in London have free entry this one does require a ticket. So paying a little more to have a guided tour is definitely worth it. There is quite a lot to see in the museum and it can get quite crowded, so having a knowledgeable guide like the one we had to focus on some of the highlights and navigate through the chaos was helpful.

British museum - Had received picture of tour guide and meeting location - recommended we come early which we did. At 2:02 still could not find young lady - started walking around asking everyone if they were a tour guide. Finally happened in young lady ( not one in picture) who said “ yes” doing tour! Recommend customers get update regarding guide change and wear just something that identifies them to customers. Not a good start!

Misleading Advertising - When we booked this tour, we were told it would give us 'Fast Track' entrance. Any reasonable person would think this means we would not need to join long lines or at least have access to a shorter, faster line. This is NOT the case. You join the SAME line as all other ticket holders and these lines are LOOOOONG. On the day of the tour, I asked Viator what they had meant by 'Fast Track': they said, "Oh, it just means we get you tickets in advance." Really? We could have done that ourselves! Tickets to the museum are FREE and anyone can get them in advance. We were were put off by this false advertising.

British Museum - I was disappointed that we didn't have the opportunity to see the exhibit while in the room. Too much lecture about what the guide was interested in and it took too long.

Shameful - Let me start by saying it takes a lot for me to write a negative review. I am very tolerant and understand that mistakes can be made. But ….. This was bad. I had prepaid and preplanned several days ahead this tour for my family of 4. I love this museum and wanted the visit to be special. All set to go. Then at 2:00 am on the day of the tour (10:00 am start), a email warning me to arrive 20 minutes early to get through security. What? Good thing I checked my email at breakfast. Sorry kids. Gobble up your breakfast. No time to spare. Despite the stress and frustratingly short breakfast, we managed to get there early to get through security to where we were supposed to meet the guide…. Small problem. The guide must not have read their own message. No guide! Waited for 45 min. Yes 45 minutes. Asked EVERYONE there. Reps from the museum. Other guides. Everyone but still no guide. Called the listed number several times. No answer. 😡 okay enough lost time. Started tour on own. Then suddenly 5 minutes in, another Viator guide who had been trying to help us earlier saw us and said “go back to entrance, I just heard from them. they’re waiting for you. They just confirmed it to me.” Okay. We’ve wasted 45 minutes and only have another 45 before our next appointment but okay. So we go back to the entrance. Waited for our guide. For another 10 minutes!!!!. That’s right. No guide. 😡😡😡 That’s it. We’re done. So we travel from the US with our family and prepay for a guided tour. They charge us a lot of $$$$ and they do this??? Are you kidding me? Never again. To make it worse. When we get back to hotel room, we see texts to my daughter’s WhatsApp asking where we were. What? I didn’t even share here contact information. It really felt like a dishonest attempt to cover tracks. Why didn’t you just answer the phone that we called and you provided? Not only will I refuse this charge, if they give me even the slightest bit of grief, I will make it my hobby to tell all of my friends who travel (sorry Viator there are many) about this joke of a service. I hope this is just a one off experience but shame on you Viator! Shame!
