Cruise around the volcano caldera - While in Santorini, it is worth taking a boat trip around the volcano's caldera. The tours are organized by the local Kamari Tours office. The office bus picked us up from the church in Kamari and transported us to the port of Athinios on the west coast of the island. In the port, we boarded the King Thiras boat and sailed to the island of Nea Kameni, which is actually the top of a volcano. After visiting the island with a guide, we returned to the boat and sailed to the next island, Palea Kameni, on the shore of which we could bathe in hot springs. After swimming, the boat sailed to the island of Thirasia, which lies on the western side of the caldera. Here we had about two hours to eat something, swim in the sea or lie on the beach. After this time, the boat sailed towards the town of Oia in the north of Santorini and turned south, sailing along the shores of the island and thus reaching the port of Athinios. Here we boarded the bus that took us to Kamari.

Volcano boat trip - Nice experience of watching Santorini from the seas with good views. Learning history of Santorini and the volcanos from the guide also very good.

Professional and worth the price over the cheaper alternative - Professional and comfortable. I was impressed with the King Thiras team, not only did they provide a well narrated tour and clean facilities, the boat was not crammed full of people (like the cheaper tour we saw leave at a similar time) and they even had a safety boat follow the swimmers into the hot springs with extra life jackets and lifeguard. We did the "morning" tour but please note it left at 9am and only returned at 5pm. That said, we finished with a wonderful drive by Oia which was unexpected.

Great tour of the active volcano - We popped into one of the Kamari Tours centres to ask a couple of general questions on our first day in the. Area. The lady gave us helpful answers and a map of the local area, which included details of the tours offered. We travelled the island by public bus but Kamari tours offered something different including a boat trip to the volcano island of neo kameni, the hot springs and a few hours on Tharissa. The tour was well organised and ran to time. There was about the right amount of time at each stop and the guide Chris was excellent. Although the boat was full it wasn’t overcrowded like some tours we have done in the past.

Don't listen to the tour guides recommendations eat at Labros restaurant in Thirassia. The food is horrible - The tour itself was good. The guide was very knowledgeable of the history of this beautiful area. I am taking away a star because the guide recommended Labros restaurant and the food was absolutely disgusting. She must be related to the owners. I felt ill after eating just a couple of bites and i will probably never eat calamari again. Fortunately a couple of stray cats came along and even one of them refused to eat it. Kamari tours should really prohibit her from directing trusting guests to this horrible place. It just not right.

An OK experience - This was ok - positives: our guide was super. She was really knowledgable and was great especially on the volcano hike. It was great to see the volcano and definitely something to tick off the bucket list! We enjoyed the hot springs and felt the staff prepared us well for all of the experiences (warning about jewellery, footwear etc) The price is very reasonable for the amount you squeeze in We did feel that they over sold the tour. The boat was very crowded and squashed which was not ideal is such heat. It also meant that it was hard to see some of the sights as people were standing blocking eachother. The bar only took cash which was not told to us before which would have been good to know, especially when water is so important in this kind of weather. The island we stopped at in our opinion did not offer much to see or do. We spent our time on the island having lunch and that was it. Overall it was an OK tour but be aware it is very crowded and bring cash if you have any hope of getting some cold drinking water.

Extremy loud music and neglected pick up/drop off - Too crowded on the boat, queue everywhere you go including the volcano. Uncomfortable seats on the boat. Extremely loud music that is played constantly, didn't hear the sound of the ocean one time. Expensive food, paid 8 euro for a little baguette. But mice, english speaking tour guide. Unfortunately too crowded on the volcano so we left the tour to walk the mountain by ourselves. Also the bus driver who was supposed to pick us up drove past our prebooked pick-up spot so we had to run after the bus to get him to stop. When we were returning from the tour he hadn't even got instructions to let us off at the prebooked stop, so we had to ask him to stop there but he didn't speak english. We had to track our spot by ourselves on google maps as he drove another route that was far away from our stop, so we just asked him to let us off as he was about to deviate from our stop completely. Then we had to walk 15 minutes in the warm afternoon sun. Mind you, this was a prearranged pick up and drop off.

Not very pleasant! - An overcrowded boat, with rough seas completed the nightmare of the day! I don't speak English well so I understood almost nothing of the guide's explanations. My note is that at least a small booklet in Italian, French and German could be provided for those who, like me, are not familiar with the Anglo-Saxon language! As for the vaunted sunset in Oia, I have seen more beautiful ones and certainly in better conditions... hundreds of people like sardines in the streets or on the ridges overlooking the sea.
