Highlights
  • Grinzane Cavour Castle - Constructed during the initial half of the 13th century, this castle has experienced numerous modifications in its design. The latest refurbishments took place in 1961, coinciding with the 100-year anniversary of the unification of Italy. This majestic redbrick edifice is designed on a trapezoidal layout, featuring four irregularly positioned sections encircling a compact central courtyard. In the 16th century, the structure was enhanced by the addition of two charming circular towers; the ornate ceiling in the Hall of Masks, adorned with 157 painted panels, also originates from this era. Presently, the castle is home to the “Cavour” Regional Enoteca, a dining establishment, and an Ethnographic museum dedicated to the agricultural lifestyle. The museum showcases a diverse collection, including artifacts associated with Cavour, wines from ancient Alba, culinary settings from the 17th and 19th centuries, various wine glasses, items linked to Alba’s gastronomic and vinicultural heritage, the workspaces of a blacksmith and barrel maker, a distillery from the 18th century, agricultural tools, scales and measurements, and details on truffles.

Don't miss this introduction to Piedmontese grapes and wines - We had no idea what to expect from Grinzane Cavour Castle and when our guide took us there first, we were delighted from the start. It's an amazing castle, in a gorgeous location, and it's a fabulous introduction to Piedmontese wines and vineyards. So interesting, so educational but not overwhelming, And there are lots of English language signs and descriptions, so we got an enormous amount out of our visit.

Breathtaking - We visited the castle which is looked after down to the smallest detail, the museum is really well kept and is explained in every detail. We ended the visit with tasting and purchasing wines in the regional wine shop. Sincere thanks to Simona and Tiziana who were able to advise and assist us in a friendly and professional way

A jewel set among the vines - Small castle also home to the Piedmontese regional wine shop Cavour. Built in the 11th century, it also belonged to the family of Count Camillo Benso di Cavour. Really worth a visit. We recommend it.

Nice Museum in the middle of the vineyards - Magnificent and very informative - Nice, very informative museum in the middle of the Langhe vineyards. We really enjoyed the visit. The museum allows you to understand the crucial role played by Cavour in the history of the reputation of the region's wines. Great discovery! The introductory video and the exterior explanatory courses are very well done. Furthermore, the very well maintained castle offers a superb panorama of the surrounding vineyards: magnificent views, it's beautiful! We appreciated even more that it wasn't crowded at the end of July. Very nice visit. We recommend

Amazing and surprising! - We were first attracted by the exterior, with this beautiful, enriching little walk before arriving at the castle. Not knowing much about wine, but enjoying drinking it, we read the explanations and illustrations in Italian, English or French on the region, the wines, the owners. A very pleasant course with a breathtaking view. As soon as we enter the castle, we are very well received and benefit from an audio guide also in French. Neither too long, nor too little... You will have understood, we recommend this visit! Sophie and Eric Belgium

A wonderful visit - A must-visit for anyone staying in Langhe. The castle itself is beautiful, and offers an extremely educational and informative experience for anyone who's interested in learning about the region's history, as well as past and present winemaking. We loved our visit and look forward to returning soon. We returned a few days later at night to take pictures of the castle which is lit up every night with the colors of the Italian flag, and it was beautiful to see at night.

Worth a visit if you are in town. - Castles always have something exciting about them and I never fail to go and visit them. This cannot be defined as a real castle as it lacks a specific history. On the other hand, the visit was very interesting but only because the guide who accompanied us was very nice and engaging. On site you can taste/purchase good wine at non-prohibitive prices.

beautiful castle - Built on top of a hill, the Grinzane Cavour Castle dominates, with its beauty, the stupendous panorama of the hills: You can already see it when there are a few kilometers to go. It is surrounded by hills and vineyards of the Langhe. It is very beautiful outside but inside it offers few panels and the price is high considering other castles in the area.
