- Reed Flute Cave (Ludi Yan) - Nestled in the hillside of Bright Hill in Northwest Guilin, near the Peach Blossom River, Reed Flute Cave is approximately 7 km from downtown. The cave is named after the reeds growing near its entrance, which are ideal for making flutes. Spanning 800 meters, the cave exploration takes about fifty minutes. Opened to the public in 1962, it is one of the most visited caves in China and is often referred to as the “Art Palace of Nature.” Inside, visitors can marvel at numerous stalactites, stalagmites, stone pillars, stone curtains, and stone flowers, all illuminated by colorful lights that create a breathtaking spectacle. These formations are named based on their appearances. The U-shaped route showcases various sights, including Morning Glow over Lion Forest, Virgin Forest, Fruit and Flower Mountain, Double Pillars Supporting the Heaven, and Crystal Palace. Visitors are encouraged to use their imagination to interpret the formations.
- Li River - The Li River is one of China’s most picturesque rivers and a must-see for visitors. Tang Dynasty poet Hanyu described it as “the river winds like a ribbon of blue silk, hills like hairpins of green jade.” A private motorized boat ride along the Li River, lasting about an hour, offers stunning views of bamboo groves, towering peaks, and charming villages.
- Daxu Old Town - Located on the north bank of the Li River, about 30 km southeast of Guilin, Daxu Old Town was built during the Ming Dynasty and boasts a history of over 1,000 years. As one of Guangxi’s four ancient towns, it was established at the beginning of the Song Dynasty. The town features a 2 km street paved with cobblestones, flanked by single-eave old buildings with gray bricks and tiles, primarily from the Ming and Qing dynasties. These structures are renowned for their magnificence, refinement, and practicality. Visitors can enjoy the narrow streets lined with old-style shops, herb stores, and traditional buildings, offering a delightful taste of local culture and national features. The town, once a bustling trading center, became quieter after the 1930s with the advent of railways and highways.
- Guilin Yaoshan Mountain Scenic Resort - China is the homeland of tea, and the Chinese people cherish their tea as much as coffee is cherished elsewhere. A visit to a local tea plantation allows visitors to take photos, learn about the tea production process from a tea specialist, and sample various types of tea. A traditional tea ceremony is sure to be an enjoyable experience.
