Braga, deeply entrenched in Roman Empire history, is a two-thousand-year-old trade city with a strategic position that was once of service to the world’s hub - Rome, around 1 BC. Originally known as Bracara Augusta to honor Emperor Augustus, the city retains its significance and legacy through the remains and structure of its city center and surrounding areas.
Guimarães, on the other hand, is known as the birthplace of our nationality. It was the scene of our liberation from the Kingdom of León, and the hometown of Afonso Henriques (our first king). It is a captivating city that has retained its medieval structure and architectural characteristics, earning it the title of a UNESCO world heritage site in 2001.
