Additional Information

Experience the most historical cities in Portugal! If you’re a heritage enthusiast or simply intrigued, read on:

Braga, deeply entrenched in Roman Empire history, is a two-thousand-year-old trade city with a strategic position that was once of service to the world’s hub - Rome, around 1 BC. Originally known as Bracara Augusta to honor Emperor Augustus, the city retains its significance and legacy through the remains and structure of its city center and surrounding areas.

Guimarães, on the other hand, is known as the birthplace of our nationality. It was the scene of our liberation from the Kingdom of León, and the hometown of Afonso Henriques (our first king). It is a captivating city that has retained its medieval structure and architectural characteristics, earning it the title of a UNESCO world heritage site in 2001.

Ricardo is the best! - We can’t recommend this tour enough! Ricardo is a great tour guide and friendly host. Brags and Guimaraes are well worth visiting. We are going to book with him again when we return to Portugal — which we will!

History rich - The tour was amazing. The guide was very understanding and helpful. One of our mates got sick during the trip and we had to cut short our experience. Rather than being troubled and frustrated with us, the guide was kind and supportive, and even messaged us the next few days to enquire about the well being of our friend. Despite the unprecedented events and the terrible weather we had an unforgettable experience.

Unexpected pleasant surprise - Ricardo made this trip a wonderful experience. Despite having a rainy day, he adjusted the itinerary to make the best of it. He accommodated requests with a very friendly and open attitude, and made us feel welcomed. These two cities are not as widely known, but worth including in your visit to Portugal. Guimaraes has a very authentic medieval centre, and Braga is a beautiful city. Don’t forget to stop in Bon Jesus, it’s impressive!

Excellent Tour and Experience. - Our guide Ricardo was amazing. It was just my husband and I on the tour and he was able to adapt the itinerary to our wants. He has very knowledgeable on the history of the area, had a great sense of humour and brought us to a good authentic Portuguese restaurant for lunch. He speaks very good English and we highly recommend him for this tour. We saw lots in just one day. Thanks Ricardo. Your friends Julie and Stéphane from Canada. Tour was on Sunday, April, 28th, 2024.
