UNESCO reported that the Summer Palace is “a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design”, where the natural landscape of hills and open water is combined with artificial features such as pavilions, halls, palaces, temples, and bridges to form a harmonious ensemble of outstanding aesthetic value.

Excellent guide - Thank you to our guide William Kuang, he was excellent and went above and beyond - even helped me to get back on the subway, recommended a place to eat duck for lunch and wrote down the place names in Chinese so I wouldn’t get lost. Really went above and beyond. Great tour too, you can tell he’s very passionate about his country’s history. Come to Summer Palace prepared to climb some steps! It’s not too strenuous, but wear good footwear. Worth it!
