On the way our local guide point out several points of interest and prepare you for what to expect in the Viking Village This area has has a vast historical importance for Norway. In fact, Norway has it name from the sound that was called “Way to the North” by the vikings, or Nordvegr, and therefor its name Norway. - The Viking Village on Bukkøy (Viking Farm at Bukkøy) - You will find the Viking Village on a small, forested island, just inside the rocks where king Olav Tryggvason drowned a group of wizards one thousand years ago. In the farmyard you will find a longhouse, a boat house for a Viking warship, a roundhouse and several smaller buildings. Outside the farmyard there are paths through the forest for those who will just seek some peace and tranquility. In the summer season the Viking Farm is open for tourists. In the evenings and in weekends it is possible to rent the longhouse for guided tours and banquets, and while the fireplace sparkles and the flames cast shadows on the walls, you will be taken back to the 10th century. Each Year in June there is a Viking Festival at the Viking Farm. Then Vikings from many countries set up their tents among the reconstructed buildings. - Karmsundet - The strait that gave Norway it’s name! - The Five Wayward Virgins - Five standing stones beneath the high arch of the Karmsund Bridge. The Maidens may originally have formed a primitive calendar. - The Viking Planet Haugesund - The Viking Planet Haugesund, is a cutting-edge digital museum nestled in the heart of Haugesund.

Viking farm & museum - As a family of seven we booked a tour with viking adventure as soon as we came off our p&o cruise, as they are outside on the dock.. Our tour was a boat ride over to the viking village farm on a lovely big boat, then we had a rib boat to the viking museum into the town. Our tour guide was Andes, and for his first time doing a solo tour he was very knowledgeable & answered every question we asked him. He was also very friendly . Andes was with us throughout the tour. We all really enjoyed the tour.

A day out with the Vikings - A very good informative tour about the birth of a nation. Our guide was excellent keeping us up to date with our movement and ,making sure we knew what was going on taking account of the whole group. The couple at the farm were very authentic and informative.

A Simple way of life that has been passed on for several generations. - You can only get to the Viking Farm by boat! The Norwegian family has lived on the Farm for several generations. They will share there story with you and invite you into the different rooms of the Farm. They have learned to live with the simple necessities and each generation has been passed on these lifestyles.

Excellent, Informative and Good Value Trip - Our trip was well organised, timely, informative and good fun thanks to our guide. The Viking Village gave a good insight in to the lives of the Viking rather than the picture painted by Film & TV. My wife damaged her blouse on a sharp object on the boat and Viking Adventures were brilliant in handling the issue and arranging compensation, they could not have been more helpful. Book direct if you’re on a cruise as it’s much cheaper than the on board fee.

Fin vikinglandsby - From the museum at Avaldsnes it is about 15 minutes to walk on a path to the Viking village which lies on a forested holm. We had a tour of the farm. Beware of the hours of the tours for they are not so often. There were activities for the children including axe casting. The activities were badly advertised. The hosts could be more active with the audience. At the museum itself, it starts with a movie. Although the content is good, the film should be renewed soon. Otherwise a lot of nice and interesting to see in the exhibition. The cafe has a little choice of food.

Interesting - Enjoyed the visit to the farm to learn about life in the Viking era. The museum was also interesting, but an extra half an hour would have been great.

Somewhat interesting replica of Viking farm houses with underwhelming video presentation after. Not a good way to spend one's t - The Viking Farm is a collection of replicas of buildings from Viking history. There was obviously a lot of work put into these buildings, which were made with the same tools and techniques that Vikings would have used. The narrators, dressed in Viking garb, gave an interesting and enthusiastic presentation. The boat ride to and from the Viking Farm was quite scenic. The Viking planet was essentially a gift shop with a lower level that contained some video displays and a short film. There are no actual Viking artefacts on display, only projections of photographs and a series of video displays. There seems to be little information here that would not be available in a rudimentary Web search. It was quite interesting that all of the displays are in English, showing that this business is geared only for cruise ship passengers; no Norwegian would ever invisit this "museum." You may feel, as we did, that this excursion left much to be desired. Be aware, however, that there seems to be little else to do in this port of call. The guides are enthusiastic and seemed proud of their heritage. The price seems high for this tour, but everything in Norway seems to be expensive. The entire experience left us feeling taken advantage of. We would definitely not book this excursion a second time.

Viking way of life - Viking Avaldsnes Farm experience Norway is synonymous with Vikings and their influence on world history. I have also visited the UNESCO world heritage site of the Viking village of Birka in Sweden (please see my review.) So this place has been benchmarked with that experience. We booked through Go Viking adventure, on the day. They have a brown hut as soon as you disembark from the Cruise ship in Haugesund, in front of the tourist office. Inside the tourist shop, they was also an offer of a bus trip to the same farm, which appeared cheaper. The person behind the counter said that “ it would come to the same cost” with either mode of transport. If anyone else goes there please could you clarify if this statement is true? There is a 6 minute walk to a catamaran that takes you down Norvegen waterway-which Norway is named after- to a Viking island with buildings such as longhouses and people dressed in character. Our friendly guide Kenneth told us the history of the waterway. We also saw an aluminium factory in the distance, which has been one of Norway’s main exports. One of the Viking women gave a talk on what life was like in the farm. The kids also had an opportunity of making a beaded bracelet. The Viking ladies, know that their presence was key to bringing the buildings to life, and were friendly and accommodating to have their photographs taken. Thank you for that. On the way back, included in the price, was the opportunity to visit Viking planet which gave an audiovisual guide to this era. This only consisted of a few rooms and the visit here could be completed in half-an-hour or so. I am glad that this was included, as it gave a more rounded experience. There is a 15 minute walk over a bridge back to the cruise ship, from here. Overall this was expensive for what it is.(but everything in Norway is costly.) Not as enriching as Birka, and not much time allocated on the farm itself, but it provides children with a taster of Viking life.
