Highlights
  • Seljalandsfoss - Seljalandsfoss is a waterfall that can be fully encircled, situated on the South Coast of Iceland with a drop of 60 meters (200 feet). Those who join a South Coast tour or rent a car can reach the waterfall from the capital in just a couple of hours.

Due to the waterfall’s close proximity to the Ring Road and impressive natural features, it is one of the country’s most famous and visited falls. Majestic and picturesque, it is one of the most photographed features in all of Iceland.

  • Skógafoss - Skógafoss is a waterfall on the Skógá River in the south of Iceland at the cliff marking the former coastline. After the coastline had receded (it is now at a distance of about 5 kilometres (3 miles) from Skógar), the former sea cliffs remained, parallel to the coast over hundreds of kilometres, creating together with some mountains a clear border between the coastal lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland.
  • Volcano Eyjafjallajokull - Eyjafjallajökull (‘glacier of the mountains of the islands’), sometimes referred to by the numeronym Eyjafjallajokull is one of the smaller ice caps of Iceland, north of Skógar and west of Mýrdalsjökull. The ice cap covers the caldera of a volcano with a summit elevation of 1,651 metres (5,417 ft). The volcano has erupted relatively frequently since the Last Glacial Period, most recently in 2010, when, although relatively small for a volcanic eruption, it caused enormous disruption to air travel across northern and western Europe for a week.
  • Dyrholaey - Dyrhólaey, “door hill island”), formerly known by seamen as Cape Portland, is a small promontory located on the south coast of Iceland, not far from the village Vík. It was formerly an island of volcanic origin, which is also known by the Icelandic word eyja [ˈeiːja] meaning island. The volcano erupted about 100 thousand years ago during the Pleistocene. The peninsula has an elevation of 120 metres (390 ft), and the Dyrhólaey Lighthouse, built in 1927, sits at the top of the formation facing the sea.
  • Kvernufoss - Kvernufoss waterfall is a beautiful 30-meters high (98 ft) waterfall that is half-hidden away in a gorge in South Iceland, yet very close to the ring-road. It is located on the east side of the popular Skógafoss waterfall and is often overlooked by travellers.
  • Reynisfjara Beach - Reynisfjara is a world-famous black-sand beach found on the South Coast of Iceland, just beside Vik í Myrdal, which is the southernmost village on the mainland of Iceland.

Visits to it are included on many South Coast Tours and almost all Road Trips in Iceland will also take you there.

From Reynisfjara you can see Reynisdrangar that are impressive rock formations situated near the shore of Reynisfjara beach by the coastal village Vík on the South Coast of Iceland

  • Katla Ice Cave Kerlingardalsvegur - Katla Glacier The Katla glacier is a tongue, a flow of ice that comes from Mýrdals glacier, Icelands forth largest glacier. At the base of the Katla glacier are many caves, created by water which pours down the glacier in the warmer months of the year. The area is fascinating, raw nature at its best, proper movie making landscapes. Crystal blue ice caves, rugged Icelandic nature and towering mountains of ice. Prepare to be amazed!
  • Vik - The Village Vík Vík is the southernmost village on the south coast of Iceland, located on the ring road. Famous for its beautiful landscapes, black sand beaches and strange rock formations, Vík is a great place to visit.
