Highlights
  • Senate Square - The Senate Square and its surroundings are a one-of-a-kind and well-coordinated example of Neoclassical architecture. Carl Ludvig Engel (1778-1840) designed four buildings that dominate the square: Helsinki Cathedral, the Government Palace, the main building of the University of Helsinki, and the National Library of Finland. The Senate Square is dominated by a statue of Alexander II (1894).
  • The Esplanadi Park - The popular Esplanade Park, affectionately known as “Espa” among locals, is Finland’s most famous park and the green heart of Helsinki. People come to see and be seen, to listen to music and watch performances, and to picnic. Carl Ludvig Engel, Helsinki’s principal architect, originally designed the park. The park has an architectural style, with straight tree-lined alleys and flowerbeds. A hall-like space is created by the rows of linden trees on either side of the park.
  • Old Market Hall - Since 1889, the Old Market Hall in Helsinki has served its customers.

Cheese, fish, shellfish, vegetables, fruit, and cakes, as well as spices, coffee, and tea, are all available from merchants. They are also happy to assist with any special orders.

There is also a small Alko shop for wines and beverages, as well as cafes and restaurants.

  • Central Library Oodi - The Central Library of Helsinki Oodi is a living meeting place in the heart of Helsinki, at Kansalaistori square. It is one of 37 Helsinki City Library branches and a member of the Helmet library network.

Oodi joins the Helsinki Music Centre, Finlandia Hall, Sanoma House, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in forming a cultural and media hub. Oodi is an open-to-all, non-commercial urban public space located directly across the street from the Parliament Building.

  • Helsinki Central Railway Station - The main station for commuter rail and long-distance trains departing from Helsinki, Finland, is Helsinki Central Station. The station serves approximately 400,000 people per day, with approximately 200,000 of them being passengers. It serves as the terminus for all trains in the Helsinki commuter rail network, as well as all long-distance trains in Finland bound for Helsinki. The metro station Rautatientori (Central Railway Station) is also housed in the same structure.
