Highlights
  • Grasshopper Active - Hoi An Day Tours by Bike - Meet at 7:15am at the Grasshopper Adventures shop at #621 Hai Ba Trung Street. Walk 20m up the small alleyway and you’ll see the shop on your left behind the green gates. Your guide will fit your bike, give a safety briefing, and provide an overview of the tour.

  • Hoi An - Hoi An town:
Cycling along small and quiet alleyways we reach the riverfront of the historic district, long before crowds descend on the city. It’s a great time for photos.
    Hoi An Countryside:
Crossing the river, we leave the city behind on our way to My Son, venturing off on to rural pathways accessible only to bikes and motorbikes. It’s not long before we are pedaling through small villages, past family farms and rice fields, greeting workers along our way. Depending on the season, we pass rice, corn and even sunflower fields as we explore a very different landscape to that of the city. We’ll see hardly any four- wheeled vehicles as we through a network of shortcuts and connections that only locals would know. The Cham Ruins of My Son lie ahead.

  • An Hoi - Crossing the river, we leave the city behind our wheels on our way to My Son, venturing off onto rural pathways accessible only to bikes and motorbikes. It’s not long before we are pedaling through small villages, past family farms and rice fields, greeting friendly workers along our way. This is your best opportunity to glimpse authentic Vietnamese life.

  • My Son Sanctuary - After replenishing our energy with a healthy snack of fresh fruit and local coffee or tea, it is a short transfer to the entrance to this UNESCO World Heritage site. New regulations require we park our bikes and board electric shuttle vans to the main ruins.

  • Hoi An Ancient Town - A drive aboard our private van with a midway stop for a simple but delicious lunch of local noodles tops off a fun, informative half day tour.

  • Hoi An - Our driver and Tour guide will transfer you back to your hotel in Hoi An

An amazing and sporty way to see the countryside with Tam! - An amazing tour with Tam, who was so knowledgeable, caring and patient with us during the entire trip. Despite not being avid cyclists, this is a wonderful way to see this beautiful region of Vietnam and then to visit the Sanctuary and listen to the history from Tam, made for an unbelievable experience. Highly recommend this with Tam! Bob Rajan (Munich, Germany)

Absolutely incredible! - I hesitated booking this experience because it is something I wouldn’t normally do, but I am so glad I did! What an incredible experience! Huy was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. The heat was a bit intense, so I suggest bringing extra water if possible and plenty of sunscreen. I also chose to wear a cycling chamois which I would recommend for those who are not consistent with cycling. We did stop along the way for an electrolyte drink and bananas which helped. The ride was pretty flat and mellow, which allowed me to really take in the sights. This was by far one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had, and I will always remember it. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a different type of adventure and an opportunity to see a bit of real life in Vietnam.

Great bike tour - Ky was a great guide. One of the highlights of our trips in Vietnam was biking through countryside seeing a side of Vietnam that is not easily seen in the cities or resorts. We had a great day and would highly recommend this tour.

Fun biking, fascinating ruins - Easy bicycling, really interesting temple ruins. The biking is flat and mostly on paved paths through rice paddies, farms and villages. We walked through a market and had coffee. The ruins are over a thousand years old, in a dramatic jungle setting, and our guide gave us a lot of history. Then we had a good lunch. I recommend this tour.

Wonderful My Son tour - Great tour of biking thru the rice fields and small villages before entering a van taking us up to the My Son ruins. Tâm is an excellent guide with tons of knowledge of most everything in and around Hoi An. A+++++

Worth the sore butt and legs! - Wow! How amazing was this experience! We were only 3 bikers plus our guide on this tour which was nice! (Not a fan of big groups...) Hubby is a mountain biker so I booked the tour mostly for him with little expectations for myself not being a mountain biker, but there is an option at the last stop to go the rest of the way in the van instead - which is what I did - while the other bikers carry on (mostly uphill) to My Son. Make no mistake this is a long peddle and your butt (and if you're not regularly cycling) your neck, back and basically every other part of your body knows it! However it is an amazing experience and you get to see things you would not otherwise, so it is absolutely worth the pain and completely doable at least up to the last stop which is probably about another half hour peddle from My Son. The personal service and attention from the moment we arrived at Grasshopper's offices in Hoi An, was awesome! Our guide made sure we had regular stops, made sure we were OK and hydrated and took a lot of time pointing out things to us, sharing the history and other information about the area we were cycling through and pointed out specific points of interest. He was very patient with little old me lagging behind in some places. I never once felt that I was an inconvenience or held everyone back if they had to wait a few seconds for me to catch up. Along the way we stopped at a market for a look around and some local food and coffee which was very nice! It gave us a bit of a break from peddling. Our guide bought fruit that we enjoyed later. When we arrived at My Son, our guide took us all the way through the entire sanctuary which is done on foot - quite a walk! He had a vast knowledge of the sanctuary and all the history. We took our time at the sanctuary and did not at any point feel rushed through. It was just a very easy relaxing walk with plenty of time to explore and take photos. I would recommend Grasshopper Bike tours in Hoi An in a heartbeat and I'll definitely do this tour again if I find myself in Hoi An.

A Wonderful Experience - This was a fabulous experience and I would highly recommend it. From start to finish, it was extremely enjoyable and so interesting throughout the day - by far, the best excursion we have done in Vietnam. Our guide, Quang, spoke fluent English and he was so friendly and incredibly informative and able to answer any questions we had about what we were seeing during the ride and whilst at My Son Sanctuary - which is an absolute ‘must see’. The length of the ride was just right, and it was good that the minibus was able to take us from My Son straight back to our hotel in Hoi An. The various stop offs were great too, and we particularly enjoyed visiting the market. At the final stop before My Son, we were offered drinks at a nice cafe/bar and the choice of freshly made juice drinks was great - I recommend the fresh lemonade as it was out of this world! The bikes were lightweight, in good condition and very easy to ride. The only negative in my opinion was that there could have been more advice about suitable attire for the day in the booking information. So here are my suggestions - wear lightweight gloves as the grips on the handles feel a bit prickly after a while and the gear chain is exposed so either wear shorts or tight fitting leggings. Padded cycle shorts ideal though as the bike seats aren’t particularly comfortable. Trainers also advisable for walking the terrain at My Son and if you’re prone to mozzy bites, make sure you’ve got that covered as I was bitten more on that day than during the previous 3 weeks in Vietnam. Water is provided so no need to bring your own. There are no baskets or panniers on the bikes so a small rucksack for your belongings would be ideal. The cycling terrain is mostly flat with only a few slight inclines so most levels of fitness could cope, but confidence on a bike is a must as there are a few narrow tracks to negotiate along the way.
