Additional Information

The town boasts eight breweries, with seven located along Sakagura-Dori, also known as Sake Brewery Street. Our tour will take us through these historic streets, moving from one brewery to the next to sample the local sake.

Saijo’s breweries are clustered in this compact area due to the presence of “shikomi mizu,” a vital water source for sake production. Known as “miracle water” for its medium hardness ideal for brewing sake, it flows beneath the Saijo district. Interestingly, the water’s composition varies slightly depending on the brewery’s location. Shikomi Mizu is indispensable for sake making.

To truly experience the essence of sake, a visit to Saijo in Hiroshima Prefecture is essential.

Great experience - We had so much fun on this tour! We went to several sake breweries and got to sample and learn a ton that we would never have been able to on our own. The lunch portion was delicious. Would definitely recommend!

Getting Sake'd in Saijo - Ryan was an excellent guide - both knowledgeable and humorous. As no other persons were registered, the four of us had a "private" tour Each of the breweries we visited had different products an Ryan began to know what each of us liked and disliked - thus tailoring the tour for us.

Awesome experience on the Sake Town Tour - The Sake Town tour in Saijo was a blast. Our guide, Olivia, was delightful and made sure we had an easy, fun, and memorable experience. We first learned the process of Sake production and what makes Hiroshima sake unique. After that we went to no less than 6 breweries to sample their selections. We also enjoyed a DIY nabe lunch featuring sake in the broth and also got to relax at a nice cafe for a bit and sample sake cakes. We enjoyed the sake so much, after the tour was concluded we went back to a few breweries to enjoy even more before heaving back to Hiroshima city!
