The location offers spectacular rock formations formed by volcanic activities 140 million years ago, coastlines shaped by the predominant rock columns, and an impressive dam. The route then leads to a bay with a beautiful beach. Time to dip your feet in the South China Sea!
One more little hill before the hike ends in an old coastal village. This fishing community is still active: the storm-protected bay is used for fish cultivation.

Geopark Hiking Tour Hong Kong - We had good cool weather and really enjoyed the hike. The hexagonal columns formed by ancient volcanic activity were amazing. We also had lovely views of the Hong Kong coastline that is facing the South China Sea.This hike provided a good break from the crowds in the city. Our guide Rachel Ganly was also very accommodating of our requests and very knowledgeable.

The perfect city escape! - I participated this hiking tour during my 5 day stay in Hong Kong. Hong Kong really has an abundance of nature and so many natural spaces just waiting to be explored. To get here, we took a combination of transport options to reach the park; a combination of subway, bus and taxi, which led us on a 2-hour journey. My friendly tourguide was very easy to understand. Also, she could answer a lot of my questions and was a great companion. The tour takes you to a stunningly green and natural environment. The High Island East Dam reservoir also shows a marvelous piece of engineering. Furthermore, the tour takes you to the pretty dramatic geological structures, formed by the natural hexagonal columns. It reminded me of the Giants Causeway in Ireland and was spectacular to see. I was also impressed by the area having many inviting beaches, which are accompanied by the clear blue waters all around. I found the walking paths and the terrains to be easily accessible and the seafood meal at lunch was simply exquisite! The tour ended with a relaxing junk boat trip, that takes you back to San Kung. This tour provided me the perfect day out to unwind from the hustle and bustle of the city, giving an amazing contrast to Hong Kong's urban metropolis. I would definitely recommend anyone to add this to your list of things to do when visiting Hong Kong!

The amazing outdoor of Hong Kong not to be missed - I never knew that Hong Kong has so much nature waiting for me to explore. The hundreds of well-pathed trails leading to interesting villages accessible only by hiking, pristine beaches, clear turquoise sea, birds chirping in the forest, and wild cows grazing. I was very impressed by the magnificent hexagonal columns that were formed 140 million years ago due to a volcanic eruption. This is my experience of hiking in High Island East Dam reservoir in Geo park of Sai Kung. If you like Hong Kong shopping and good food, I believe Hong Kong outdoors will impress you as much its jungle city.

An Impressive Geopark Hiking Tour - Never knew Hong Kong has such great outdoor nature. Have a great experience of the Geopark Hiking Tour that I went on 23 April 2018 that made me changed my view and perception of Hong Kong. The last time I went to Hong Kong was 16 years ago. It is a total different experience for this trip. The guide is very patience and gave good introduction of the Geopark. She brought us to the East Dam which has a great view of the hexagonal rock columns which were formed 140 million years ago. From my understanding, this is the best place to see the world-class hexagonal rock columns. We also walk close to have a view of the sea cave though we are unable to explore into the cave. We also walk up the path mid-way towards Long Ke Village to have a great view of the High Island Reservoir. It is a scenic location surrounded by sea and hills. You cannot imagine such tranquil place exist in Hong Kong. After which, we hike through the Pak Lap village to go to Sha Kiu to have our lunch. On the way to Sha Kiu village, you will experience a magnificent view of Leung Shuen Wan which made me feel like jumping into the sea for a great swim. At the Sha Kiu village, there is a Tin Hau Temple. There are more than 100 Tin Hau Temples in Hong Kong. After lunch, we took a boat back to Sai Kung. Overall, this is an unforgettable trip. I would like to do the hiking again when I come to Hong Kong in the future. Take a look at the pictures that I have taken and you will agree with me that Hong Kong is a great outdoor place to experience.

Hong Kong - Hong Kong is one of the most interesting, exciting, lively places in the world. Most don't realize that HK is a series of more than 250 islands to visit! The service industry is most accommodating ..... the staff at the McDonalds won't even let you dispose of your own tray after you finish eating!!! Cheap custom made suits in T.S.T., the longest outdoor escalator system in the world, food is amazing, nightlife is great and the people are wonderful!!!

Great Geopark tour with light walking. Begin with coach and return on boat - Perfect for visitors who aren't prepared for long hikes but would like to see the world-famous Geopark and experience the beautiful nature of Sai Kung, HongKong. Tour coach brought us straight to East Dam where hexagonal rock columns are in view. We were allowed enough time to walk close to the rock features and sea cave. Then a light walk for lunch at Sha Kiu/Pak Lap Village which is slightly off the beaten track, so you would feel the serenity. After lunch, we visited Tin Hau Temple nearby and got a boat ride from there back to Sai Kung. Saved a lot of trouble from finding transport back to town. Everything smooth and well arranged by our tour guide! Thank you!

And there are much tourist take the ferry from sai kung pier. Transportation isn't bad there. I will recommend some buddies come and join.
