Highlights

Meet your guide in the morning in the Sheung Wan district of Hong Kong Island and follow on foot to a nearby restaurant. Arrive hungry, as you start the day with a traditional yum cha (dim sum) breakfast in a decades-old teahouse with lively atmosphere. Find yourself transported back to a bygone era as you sample authentic dumplings still served via trolley. Head to a family-run restaurant for your next stop to savor wonton noodle soup, established in the 1960s and recommended by the Michelin Guide. Bite into this local specialty, a dish that only a true master can perfect. Have time for a cup of milk tea, perhaps the most pervasive legacy of Hong Kong’s former British rule. Next, travel aboard the Ding Ding (the Hong Kong tramway; own expense) to another family-run restaurant, which dates back to the pre-20th century Qing Dynasty and is renowned for its char siu (roast BBQ pork). You’re served the best BBQ pork in Hong Kong, cooked in the traditional style and served with rice and house-made sauces. Finish at a well-established bakery, a personal favorite of a former Hong Kong governor. Sink your teeth into an egg tart, or dan tat in Cantonese, another Chinese version of an English pastry — the custard tart. In between visits to these eateries in Sheung Wan, Central, and Wan Chai, stop by a dried seafood shop for a look at ingredients traditionally used in soups, a Chinese medicine shop originating from 1940s, and Hong Kong’s oldest wet market. At the end of your food tour, your guide will explain how to get back to your hotel or give recommendations and directions to another point of interest. Culinary delights of Hong Kong! - A great way to experience the cultural and culinary delights of Hong Kong. Ivy our tour guide was fantastic, she was very knowledgeable about the areas we visited and the food we tried. She took us to some amazing restaurants, that we’d never have been brave enough to try without her expertise. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she made sure we were well looked after. A great way to explore Hong Kong and while away a morning. Would highly recommend this tour. Thanks Ivy.

Excellent taste of local cuisine with a knowledgable and enthusiastic gude - We went on a morning food tour with Ivy. She has an infectiously enthusiastic attitude which was most helpful on a day with intermittent downpours. She took us to places to which we would have never ventured on our own, which was great. The food choices were not particularly exotic, which was fine, as we wanted to experience typical cuisine and ambience, not something done on a dare. We also appreciated that, unlike other food tours we've done, the food quantities were reasonable such that we didn't feel like we were going to burst at the end. Highly recommended for anyone looking to get exposure to a spectrum of Hong Kong cuisine, while also seeing different parts of Hong Kong island. It's best to do this tour early in your Hong Kong visit, as it will give you ideas for other things to do and eat. Best of luck, Ivy, in your future endeavors, and thanks for giving us such a memorable experience in Hong Kong!
