Highlights
  • Museum van de Twintigste Eeuw - The Museum moved in 2011 to imposing new premises on Oostereiland in the historic harbour of Hoorn. The Museum has an elevator and other excellent facilities for disabled people. It furthermore has a Museum Shop, where you will find a large selection of books and interesting and nostalgic gifts.

The former prison complex “De Krententuin” was transformed to accommodate not only the Museum of the 20th Century, but also Cinema Oostereiland, together with a Brasserie and a Tourist Information Centre. A superb view of Hoorn and the IJsselmeer can be enjoyed from the whole of Oostereiland.  During the summer the harbour bustles with pleasure boats, old Dutch barges and cruise ships.

A pleasant and really interesting museum in Hoorn - The Lego section is great for kids. The museum is run entirely by volunteers. The lady in the Lego section - her name is Wills- is really wonderful with kids.

Back in time - After we parked the car in the Nieuwe Wal parking lot, we were picked up by a shuttle bus. On the way to the museum, the driver told us something about the history of Hoorn. A wonderful start. When we arrived at the museum, two ladies welcomed us. One of the ladies received our printed tickets, the other lady explained the route to follow. The permanent exhibition brought our memories back into focus; the living rooms, the kitchen, the schoolroom, the shops, etc. It was a beautiful exhibition and we will definitely go back again.

Museum full of memories - Brought back nice memories of all the things in the museum. Really recommended. And the more you recognize it, the older you are.

A great museum - Seriously one of the coolest museums we've ever been to. We loved the blast from the past with all the different appliances and rooms presented and the kids loved the Lego section.

Nice recognizable museum - Nice museum to walk around. Recognizable. When we were there it was way too busy. They would have to work with reservations and time blocks, but sometimes it was impossible to get through. Shame. Catering and prices are good. Nice trip to combine with a visit to Hoorn.

Feast of recognition - Nice museum. Truly a trip down memory lane. Also very nice for us (45 years old) to walk through and recognize your youth. We liked the Lego section to discover the history. I think this is absolutely great for children. We also saw elderly people who were no longer fully mentally in this time and who seemed to enjoy the recognition. So highly recommended for them too!

Nice museum with stories from the past..... - This is a surprising museum. The items from that time take you into various periods of the twentieth century. For many, this is a celebration of recognition and stories emerge.
