Highlights

Cusco - Km 104 - Sungate - Machu Picchu - Aguas Celientes

Inca Trail - Pick up at 4:00 am and drive to Ollantaytambo. From here it’s a 1-hour train ride along the Urubamba river from Ollantaytambo (in the highlands) to km 104 at Chachabamba (in the cloud forest), where we start our hike to Machu Picchu. Our first stop is a beautiful Inca ruin called Chachabamba.

After exploring the site we will hike for 4 hours until we arrive at Wiñay Huayna (the place that never gets old). An organic packed lunch and refreshments will be provided. Later we will continue our hike to the Sun Gate to catch your first glimpse of the Lost City of the Incas - a truly unforgettable sight.

From the Sun Gate, it’s a 1-hour downhill walk to the city. We will arrive in Machu Picchu in the afternoon and will, therefore, have the unique opportunity of experiencing the citadel almost empty. We will then take the bus down to Aguas Calientes where we will have dinner, and spend the night in a hotel.

Machu Picchu - The Lost City of the Incas

Machu Picchu - We will wake up early to visit Machu Picchu - the Lost City of the Incas. We will go straight to the line to wait for the first buses to Machu Picchu at 5:30 am.

You can watch the spectacular sunrise over Machu Picchu on a clear day. This is truly an unforgettable sight.

Your guide will take you on a 2 to 3-hour comprehensive tour of the city before leaving you in Machu Picchu to explore on your own or climb either Huayna Picchu or Montaña (tickets must be booked as far in advance). Your guide will explain how to take the bus from Machu Picchu back to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included) and then take the Panoramic train and bus back to Cusco. TreXperience will meet you off the train and return you safely to your hotel.

Amazing hike and well organised tour - My partner and I had an amazing time on this tour. The hike was spectacular and we had a great tour of Machu Picchu. Everything was really well organised and our guides, Yoel and Nil, were super knowledgeable and made sure everyone had a great time. I would definitely recommend this tour if you’re interested in doing a short section of the Inca Trail.

Really Powerful Tour - It was great to support a locally owned company that hires indigenous and local staff. You could feel the infectious joy, care and pride of our guides Eddie and Isabelle through the trek. They gave us a deep insight into Incan culture and history which we truly felt a part of - if you want a truly indigenous and community run experience, this is it!

Perfect balance of sights, information, hiking and social - My partner and I did the 2 day Inca trail with Trexperience. It was really fantastic - the group was great, and the guides, Yoel and Nilton, were really fantastic - not only on the hike, but also the lunches and dinner were really enjoyable with everyone. The hike itself was challenging, but not too bad, and it felt very rewarding (for context my partner and I are in our early 30s, and don’t normally hike). Yoel and Nilton made sure we went at a pace suitable for everyone and had regular breaks. They were also very informative and told us a lot about at the different stops, and answered all our questions. At Machu Picchu itself, they chose a great circuit which was quiet and a nice contrast to what we saw on the first day, with plenty of information.

Perfect trek - We did the Short Inka Trail and it was amazing! Our guide Miguel was very knowledgeable and gave us the exact right amount of interesting information. He cared for the whole group and each person individually and kept the group together perfectly. He was always in a good mood. Everything from the way he took group photos to personal conversations and information was great! Joner the second guide was great as well! The trek was beautiful and not too challenging, we got to see the most of Machu Picchu and also the panoramic train was great with a lot of entertainment like e.g. a life band on board!
