Highlights
  • Papigko - The villages of Megalo and Mikro Papigo, divided into two districts, are situated at the base of Astraka Mountain. A striking feature of the area is the five towering peaks of Astraka Mountain that loom over the villages. In Mikro Papigo, you’ll find the Information Center of Nature and Culture in Zagori and the Taxiarches church.
  • Papingo Rock Pools - Between Megalo and Mikro Papigo, there are small natural pools known as swimming pools.
  • Voidomatis River - The Aristi bridge, constructed in 1923, is set in a picturesque location with plane trees and the clear waters of the Voidomatis River, which is at the heart of the stunning Vikos-Aoos National Park.
  • Oxya Viewpoint - How can one describe this place or capture the beauty of its scenery in a photo? The Vikos viewpoint is located at the northern end of the Vikos Gorge. A paved path leads from the village to the Voidomatis springs in the gorge.
  • Stone Forest - This unique natural wonder features layers of rock formations that resemble trees, situated at an altitude of 1,350 meters.
  • Monodendri - This village is perched on the southwest side of the Vikos Gorge at an altitude of 1,060 meters, offering access to breathtaking views of the Gorge. It also features several churches, a monastery on the cliff’s edge, and a Handicraft School aimed at the educational, cultural, and social development of the Zagori region.
  • Kokkori Bridge - The most renowned single-arched stone bridge in the Zagori area, built in 1750, is located between the villages of Dilofo, Kipoi, and Koukouli.

Additional Information

Zagori, meaning ‘the region behind the mountains’, is comprised of 46 lovely villages and multiple stone bridges. The locals have utilized the native stone to construct homes, religious institutions like churches and monasteries, and paved roads. These stone bridges contribute to the architectural integrity of this unique district. We tour a variety of these villages, observe the astonishing views of the Vikos gorge, visit the stone bridges, see natural pools, experience the chilliest river in Europe with an average temperature between 8-12 degrees Celsius, and pay respects at a monument dedicated to the courageous women of the Pindos range.

Ioannis was an excellent... - Ioannis was an excellent tour guide and we really enjoyed this tour. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery and passing by and stopping in the small villages in the Zagori area. He gave us a lot of information on the area including the culture and history. By the end of the tour, I felt like he was part of my family. One of the best tours we did on this vacation in Greece.
