Highlights
  • Ipoh Secrets Tours - Private Tour: Ipoh Secrets Full Day Heritage & Orang Utan Island (OUI) Tour starts with pick up from any location of your choice within Ipoh or Taiping.

The drive from Ipoh to OUI takes roughly 1.5 hours.

  • Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation - We will catch the first boat into the island. You will walk through the semi-circle steel-fence tunnel enclosure where we humans, seemingly in a cage, can peer out and be captivated by the orangutans roaming free beyond in the trees, on the grass, by the bushes, or by the lake.

The guide from Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation will be explaining all the details of this endangered animal, so be sure to follow him/her while they move from point to point.

The visit into the island is around 60 minutes
*
In the event that Orang Utan Island had low water level/closure, we will replace it with a visit to the heritage town of Taiping

  • Matang - After the island, we will be driving for half an hour to the next location
  • Hun Leng Heong Hang - Here you’ll be awed by these humongous incense made for ceremonial purpose, usually lit up during bigger festivals for the Chinese community. You’ll get to see how the workers work from piece to piece, adding layers and colors which some takes months to complete.
  • Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve - About 15 minutes drive away to the mangrove forest, here you’ll be stopping at a charcoal factory. You’ll learn more of this industry and the method they used to produce wood charcoal in a huge dome-shaped igloo like kiln.

We will be taking lunch nearby before heading back to Ipoh.

  • Ipoh - The return journey to Ipoh will take about 1.5 hours
  • Ipoh Heritage Walk - This is the shortened version of the heritage trail where we will only be driving at a few interesting spots for history/stories

Knowledgeable and responsible tour guide. - John arrived on time to pick us up from the hotel. He is knowledgeable about the places. We arrived two minutes after the closure of the temple. Instead of sending us back to our hotel, he brought us to another cave temple.

Great day out with John - Had a great tour with John from 8:00 pickup in Ipoh to drop off in George Town around 18:30. John was very knowledgeable and even the brief driving tour around Ipoh was very informative. Unfortunately ran out of time to visit the mangroves but saw everything else in a long day including a convenient way to transfer between towns.

Great day with history and scenery - We had a great day with guide John. We were 5 with 3 boys 14-17 yrs who also enjoyed the tour including meals in local places. John learned us to eat Mangosteen, stinky beans and waterspinach. Culture and nature (cave visit) and history. The included car was also fine. We really can recomend the tour. Ask also for the boedist temple!
