Hagia Sophia Mosque - Hagia Sophia (Ayasofya, Santa Sofia) was constructed in the 6th century by Emperor Justinian. It holds significant importance in both the Christian and Islamic worlds. Following the Ottoman conquest, the bells, altar, and sacrificial vessels were removed, and many mosaics were covered to transform the church into a mosque.

Blue Mosque - The Blue Mosque, built in the early 1600s for Sultan Ahmet I of the Ottoman Empire, is a magnificent architectural masterpiece with remarkably delicate proportions for such a large structure. Interestingly, locals never refer to it as the Blue Mosque; we call it Sultan Ahmet Mosque (Camii). Basilica Cistern - In the heart of Istanbul’s Sultanahmet lies the mysterious Basilica Cistern. The Basilica Cistern, also known as Basilica Palace, is one of Istanbul’s most significant historical structures. The unique features of its columns and the inverted Medusa head draw much attention. Hippodrome - The Byzantine Hippodrome, now known as Sultanahmet Square, was the site of chariot races during the Roman Empire. It features the Egyptian Column from the Byzantine era and the German Fountain.

Kapali Carsi - The Grand Bazaar (Kapali Carsi) is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, boasting over 4,000 shops. Here, you can find a vibrant array of ceramics, leather goods, rugs, carpets, handicrafts, clothing, silver, and gold.

German Fountain - This fountain was constructed in Germany and then transported piece by piece to its current location in 1900 to commemorate the second anniversary of German Emperor Wilhelm II’s visit to Istanbul in 1898 during the reign of Abdülhamid II. Inside the dome, you can clearly see the logos of the Ottoman and German Empires.

Arasta Bazaar - The Arasta Bazaar, known locally as Arasta Carsisi, is centrally located in Sultanahmet, thanks to its historical connection to the Blue Mosque. Adjacent to the bazaar is a lively open-air café offering tea, water pipes, and Turkish cuisine. The bazaar features numerous vendors selling various items and souvenirs, as well as the Great Palace Mosaic Museum, which houses ancient mosaics unearthed throughout Istanbul.
