The ancinets Greeks first thought of it but it wasn’t possible with the machinery available at the time, so it wasn’t until 1893 that it was finally completed.

Commencing our journey from Athens, we’ll drive westward to our first brief halt, the magnificent Corinth canal, marking the boundary between Attica and Peloponnesus. This will be followed by a visit to Ancient Corinth, a significant city in Ancient Greek history, giving us the privilege to wander amongst the debris of the Apollo Temple. Subsequently, we will ascend the Acropolis of Corinth, towering over the city, relishing the panorama that extends from the Corinthian gulf to the canal and further into the vineyards of Nemea, our subsequent destination. A tour to one of the renowned vineyards in the vicinity will unravel the intriguing aspects of wine making while also presenting us with the chance to sample some of Greece’s finest wines. Given that we are in the region where, as per mythology, Hercules slew the Nemean lion, it’s only fitting we encounter the Ancient Nemea archeological site and the Zeus Temple before we conclude our day packed with genuine Greek encounters and commence our return trip to Athens.
