Highlights
  • Corinth Canal - Our driver will meet you at your hotel, at 08:30 hrs, and will depart for Ancient Olympia, following the highway to Peloponnese.
After about 1 hour drive, we will reach the Corinth Canal, where we will make a short stop for rest and taking pictures. Its iron bridge was the only road entrance to Peloponnese until the new Rio-Antirrio bridge (almost an hour and a half drive to the east) opened in August 2004. Mid-range cruisers and smaller ships still use the narrow canal to cross from the Aegean Sea to the Ionian sea, so that they cut short their long trips.

Additional Information

A single-day trip to Olympia, the UNESCO World Heritage site and the cradle of the Olympic Games, one of ancient Greece’s most revered sports events, is never sufficient. Explore the Temple of Zeus, formerly adorned with a gold and ivory effigy of the supreme god, designed by distinguished artist Phidias. This statue once featured in the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Step into the stadium through the crypt and transport yourself to a bygone era. Feel the energy of competing athletes and the roar of enthusiastic spectators! Later, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Archaeological museum, home to notable plastic art specimens such as the Hermes of Praxiteles, the Nike (Victory) of Paionios, and the sculptures that once embellished the Temple of Zeus.

Before departing Olympia and heading back to Athens, we’ll stop at a local honey farm for a peaceful break in its gardens. Enjoy a glass of freshly squeezed juice or a cup of Greek coffee accompanied by a handcrafted quince delicacy.
